4g92m
1.6L dohc mivec
a lot of outlay for little return really. best combined with a turbo or larger bottom end
stock power:128kw

Why so ? it is such a sweet little engine for a street car and within 15% self certification rules for the RTA.

Cos they are hella rare. and so cost heaps.

Rare in AUS, but worth beer money in NZ......

And they do sound really nice and surprisingly torquey at low revs.

saw a 4G92 mivec selling for $650 in NZ.... 125kW motor according to online specs.. decent upgrade.

Find out how much a pallet would be to get it to one of the ports in australia via freight ship, you may find that it'd actually be cheaper to find one in Australia... Also if it's just the motor, you'll also need to find the loom and ecu (unless you went AEM) to be able to run it. Even still, got a linky for those interested?

TEST

Not sure why Res' last post didn't show in this thread...it's a very bizarre one because when I deleted it mine is still showing. If it were the usual case where a post can go missing then you shouldn't see this one after I deleted Res'. Some sort of extremely odd and infrequent glitch happened in this thread :?

So im not sure on your ability with tools or what kind of access to a workshop you have. But there are many ways you could go about it.
You specified engine swaps so of course a number of lancer motors can be straight bolt on jobs (not as easy as it sounds) my favourite has been the fto half cut getting transferred into a coupé then you have similar engines that will cost more but can pack a punch like a honda or nissan.
Nissan particularly if you wanted turbo slapped on too (recommend sr20DE from SSS Pulsar/NX) but you will have to change the gearbox and most of the front end. Can be expensive.
Or you can break open your piggy bank and go all out with a rwd conversion, but that will be a lot of work. Look out for my post covering the conversion and paint.

Mate, depend on the year,, the evo engine 4g63 will direct bolt under ur hood.. i think evo 4,5,6

Regards

yes, you can also use evo 7/8/9 engine and also the transmissions from those. you msut use the right gearbox mount along with the gearbox
however you cannot use the transfer case. you must be a cn9a or cp9a transfer. ct9a transfer will not work.

I built my Mirage with evo4 running gear and proper centre differential, tail piece mods to have it running reliably.

So far ive had in my lancers a 1.6 mivec, 1.8 mivec, 2.1 mivec, 4G94, and a 4G63 some of them multiple times lol. All have been direct bolt on and taken no more than a couple of days, at a lot less than the suggested figure of 5k. Id go for a straight 4G92 mivec. Great power for very little work.

more info on the 2.1 mivec?

6a12 might be a bolt in conversion but rta nsw are now not happy about it without epa reports, weigh bridge tickets, and engineers reports. Cause now they can't be above 15% power increase or an import motor without engineers paper.
Found out the hard way today about the *poo* they are asking now.
Hope this helps a few.
Cheers Wade

Just saw this in the eBay parts thread, couldn't see it mentioned in this thread.

The 4G15 DOHC

Does anyone know how this compares to the SOHC engine, benefits, difference in power/torque?
Would it be an easy swap out of the SOHC 4G15? If anyone has done it before

If one pops up later this year I'm keen to consider one of these or turbo my current original engine

If you had the money spare I'd be jumping on it now.

-That would be a bolt in and drive job for the mirage - no issues with registration etc etc etc.
Plus room for improvement

The sohc 4g15 is a decent engine, but if your wanting power, there is no getting away from the single inlet valve, two outlet valve design....

I do, but I don't. I just bought a house, so I've got it. But need it.
It for all associated costs, bank, gov, moving, lawyers.... Blah blah blah...
Not to mention the Mrs would shoot me for buying a new engine right now

Alright, how about this;

my CE coupe, came stock with a 4g15 (65kw) but a factory option is the 1.8L 4g93 which puts out 86kw... (which makes with a legal conversion)

Now the laws for P platers is something like 15% power increase of the factory engine..

So say if i SAID it came as a 4g93, having 86kw. 15% of 86 ...... 12.9KW .......... 86+ 12.9= 98.9

Does that mean i can legally change it to; because its within the factory option and the 15% increase?
4g94
stock in CG/CH lancers
2.0L sohc
stock power: 92kw
