Okay soooo. Did a bit of work on the shifter today and i have some good news aaaand some bad news for those of you who are looking at making the UK evo short shifter shorter stem and throw distance by adjusting it to the shorter setting
Firstly some how this adjustment works as this is still a diy and i want people to actual learn how to and why this happens
So as your shifter should come, it will have the main middle ball joint, which just above it has 3 or 4 little indents, those indents mark the spot for where the middle ball joint can be adjusted up to and locked into with the grub screws
So u move it up there, now onto how this makes the shift shorter. You have (just by moving that ball joint aka "pivot point") shortened the top length and lengthened the bottom ends distance, by doing this you have changed the pivot ratio
The pivot ratio is basically "if i move the top end how much will the bottom end move in the opposite direction"
If the top end is very long compared to the bottom end then the top end will move alot and the bottom end wont move as much distance, and opposite for the bottom being longer
As the factory shifter is set up it is designed to shift smoothly and feel rather light and easy to manouver and have a large neutral space which is very comfortable and user friendly for the average driver, but by doing this they make the shift ark a fair ammount longer
Anyway i rambled, to the good and bad news
The good news: yes you can adjust it to the shorter setting and make it work ssmoothly
However
The bad news: you will have to cut into the plastic shift support/bracket/assembly (the big white thing that holds the shifter) and u will also have to put the blue alu bushings under that support assy
This will make the shift ark and stem length a fair bit shorter, which looks better and also shorter shift times, and as that goes the shifting will be heavier as a mild down side, so if u daily drive it will be a bit more effort but im sure u will get used to it
The part that needs cutting out is basically where the drivers side cable of the shifter goes and the support plastic stops the cable frOm being able to angle and move when the shifter is lower, remove the plastic its catching on and it works perfectly fine and the structure of the shift support is still very strong
I'll get pics when i help jaidogz fix his as i forgot to take them on mine
