Auto trans fluid change video.

G'day everyone.

I am new here but have been reading this forum for a while. I just wanted to let you guys know that i made a couple of videos on DIYs for our cars on Youtube. Hope it'll help.

Here's one link for the Auto trans Service.

Thanks everyone.

I skipped through the video and sorry if you covered this however from my understanding the way ATF should be replaced is by running the engine and feeding new ATF into the transmission while having the old ATF coming out (perhaps from the cooler lines as you mentioned).

This is because you need to replace the fluid stuck in the torque converter which just draining it doesn't do.

I am not an expert nor have I done this myself and perhaps your way is right too, this is just what I found out while doing research for an auto car I have.

Thank you for your message mate. I agree with what you have said. To completely flush the system you would have to feed atleast a few litres in as you go to push the old fluid out. I was using the method which was mentioned on the web. I am toying with the idea of buying a 12V oil pump and using a large container filled to the exact amount and force pump it through the return cooler line and drain through the other line until the container is empty or i see new fluid come out. Becuase of the service intervals of the lancer auto i will have a chance soon to experimnt. Thanks again.

I'm quite sure you just have the car running and the transmission in D such that the transmission pump circulates the ATF and hence no need for a 12V external pump?

Also in my auto car (a 2003 Mitsubishi Verada) I know that the wrong ATF can and will ruin the transmission - Not sure if this was the case for the Lancers as well or not

From what i understand the Lancer Autos use a constant pump. As long as the motor is running the pump will circulate fluid around, only when a gear is engaged will it pressurise and engage the clutch pack..

You are right about the trans fluid, that's why i used Penrite FS MP3 fluid. It's the closest thing that we will get to the Original SP3 Mitsi fluid. This is the only thing that bothers me about manufacturers, we have universal lubricants that have been around since the beginning of time and they still want to fart ass around with special blends. At the end of the day an Auto trans is merely a combination of Fibres, steal plates, check valves and pressure, not much has really changed.
