Resinator, will it fix my problem

So basically, i love the sound of my exahust, although it does tend to get a bit moany on the highway... Around town its fine, its just well yea, it does tend to moan on the highway. I was going to grab a resinator to try and solve this, are these worth the cost?, if so what is a decent price to get one?, i think i got quoted up like 60 bucks when i got the exhaust done originally.

cheers,

A resonator will quieten down the exhaust a bit and more than likely remove some of the harshness from it, in particular the burbley noise you get when backing off on the throttle. But at the end of the day I dont think it will stop your droning on the freeway/highway, rather just smoothen the note out a bit and quieten it up a bit.

If you want to minimize your drone on the freeway then I'd be looking at getting a resonator and a sports-flow muffler (ie Lukey or Magnaflow), which given your now on your Ps is probably the best option unless you want to attract un-necassary police attention...

I had a res put on mine to quieten it down & make it legal but as Ryan said I don't think it will kill the moan. $60 is a decent price, I think mine was that fitted(took about 1/2 hr). So yeah look into another muffler for it.

might be a lil more than $60 now cause they have to pull it apart and put it back togeather so prob be round the 100 mark

I think atm he has just a straight pipe from the cat back without a muffler, is that correct?

2inch stainless from cat back, 3inch dumpy

I take it as a 3" dumpy being just a tip and no muffler...

yea it does have a muffler... (its not stainless i got told it was :/)

it has a powerflow muffler which are known in britain as being loud... yea 3 inch dumpy off the muffler. it was good when i got it, but now that it has been run in it is quite loud and moany. So a new tip is the way to go?

Sure its.not just a crappy muffler and packing has burnt out?

But yes a resonator should help with the noise, although I don't think it will completely stop it.

so a magnaflow muffler would be a lot better?

gave the shop a call, they just wanted to get a resinator put onto it... still thinking tht might be the better option although im not to sure.

its cat back, 2", with a powerflow muffler at the end...

check out me ride thread, have a pic of the muffler ;)

get the hotdog 1st then if its not fixed get a lukey/magnaflow muffler, then u'll be sorted

As a general rule of thumb, the higher the flow, the louder the exhaust is. If you look inside a resonator, you'll see it has these pits (like a grater) that's designed to "catch" the air and slow down the flow. So yes, it will quieten down your exhaust. But the right muffler will do a far better job. The res is your second option after the muffler
