notchy gearbox 2.4 - manual noob

The ch 2.4 is my first manual car as a daily driver, and I was just wondering if it's fairly normal for the gearbox to be a bit notchy and resistant, there's usually no trouble getting into each gear, but I find myself becoming fairly firm with it when shifting, if the stereo's off (and bearing in mind, no exhaust/intake noise) you can hear out loud the movement of the gear stick into each gear with an audible bearing movement sound.

I figured this was fairly normal behavior, but I recently rented a hyundai iload (decent sized van) and found the manual in that to have really smooth, fairly well defined shifts, which i figured wouldn't be the case for a larger vehicle.
It's not horrible, but I'm curious as to whether this is normal?

Doesnt sound normal to me, maybe check your gearbox oil level and have a look around the shifter and cables to the box along with the fittings to go with. Is your clutch good? if its happening in all gears it prob one of the things mentioned but if its on gear or so could be your syncros.

Synchros man. Mine does this and ive been told its synchros. It will eventually start grinding and that when you know they need replacing.

I would have to agree on this one even though I don't have a CH in this case my gearbox feels very similar at times. I definitely think it could be synchro related cause I have replaced the oil in my gearbox as well as the clutch and bearings.

I find mine to be hard to get into 1st and Reverse sometimes - I need to release the clutch a tiny bit so it find the gear and slips in;
but not really going between gears - nothing out the thee ordinary that's for sure.

i find that a ot of the chs i drove when buying mine had the exact same gear shifter. its very precise. its just the way i like it. but yeah. its normal.

perhaps it's a case of keep using it until/if it breaks, might change the transmission fluid, I've always thought of transmissions as a bit of a magic black box aside from knowing the basic theory of how they work.
