Intake question

Hey guys,

Guna finish off my intake on the weekend.

going to get a 3 inch Stainless pipe from the throttle body to the MAF..

The pipe that goes from the crankcase to the hose between the TB and MAF atm will not be needed obviously when I get the pipe.

My question is, the nipple on the crankecase the hose connects to, i was guna put a crankcase breather on there (the little filters) I know this is illegal since its venting to the atmosphere, but wouldn't that mean that the air entering the intake manifold is a lot cooler since theres no recirculated air coming in from the crankcase?? Just was thinkin that a heap of hot air would be entering the intake manifold via the crankcase hose, and if I got rid of this it would eliminate it.

Cheers, any thoughts would be sweet.

i dont think it would matter too much coz ALL the air in the engine bay is hot as (unless u got a vented bonnet then i dont kno)
so i think the air in the bay and the air in the crank case would be both quite hot

thats just my logic, i dont actually kno anything about the specifics, someone else may be able to fill u in on ifits worth while doing it or not worth the illegalness

im not 100% sure on this but i doubt it will make a difference.

try the breather and see how things go.

Res my intake is drawing cool air from outside the car not air from in the engine bay, thats why im thinkin there may be a difference...if it was drawing air from the engine bay like you said i dnt think it would make a difference like you said.

anyone else have any input to this???

ah ic, i dont kno the mechanics of it but as far as i kno the little filter breather things u can get just suck engine bay air

but if u hook it up to ur CAI then thats worth while i guess
just have to weigh up the illegality to the gains
i dont think the gains would be much at all tho but i could be wrong

haha Ryan knows whats going on....yep but im a cheap bastard n wana see if i can get away with a crankcase breather

an oil catch can is basically seen as a safety thing. it runs from the crankcase to the catch can, if ya engine blows instead of shooting oil everywhere it shoots it into the can and recirculates it, as far as i am aware.

the air breather just doesn't lead anywhere lol so effectively shoots oil everywhere if that happens.

anyone feel free to add to this/correct me if im wrong, but pretty sure thats how it goes

sorry for hyjacking your thread

so one hose goes too the crank case, is there anymore? :? sorry i got offered a custom one and i've never seene em before lol

You're fine man asking as someone helps me out with whether they reakon my logic works haha and whether breathers are alright. um yeah there's just one hose goes from ya crankcase to your intake (assuming it's stock) what engine you got??

Yeah yours will be the same as mine then. On the right of your rocker cover there's the one hose going to the intake, you get some different hose and hook it up to the oil catch can, is your intake stock?

i just left the rubber hose thing hanging.
who the *fudge* cares it aint goin no where anyway...

wait so if the rubber hose is attached to ur intake does that mean when ur engine blows or whatever that the oil will go into your intake?
that sounds really stupid for car manufacturers to do... am i understanding correct?

crank case, crank case, crank case... i think you all mean the rocker cover. a crank case is one of these:

it houses your crankshaft. a rocker cover houses *shock* your rockers. as far as i know, your crank case does not have a hose leading to the intake.

regarding your original question, it will make f-all difference to your performance so best not to muck around with it. studying the hose, my assumption is that it is design to recirculate the fumes back into the intake, to be burnt and exhausted. i believe it is used for anti-pollution purposes. but honestly, i think it's probably best not to much around with it.
