HID's

Hey guys,

I'm keen on getting HID's for my headlights, but will they work properly/safely with the stock headlights?
I've read that HID's are only meant for projector style headlights.

Cheers!

You can't legally have HID's unless you have projector headlights. In saying that, you can still buy crystal white xenon bulbs which will still be like 3x as bright as your stock lights. Not as good as HID's but still a massive improvement.

projector retrofit with hids..... do it, worth it, so much better than poop incandecent/halogen/xenon bulbs

Putting HIDs in normal reflector style lamps means that the increased light will be sprayed in all directions, where the projectors direct them. Putting HIDs in reflectors you are going to piss a lot of people off because they are so bright and you're shining it in oncoming driver's eyes - also a good way to piss a cop off and asking him to go to town on your car

If you do go down the HID kit into a standard reflector headlight, please please please adjust them correctly and lower them.

Sit in another car and drive past it...make adjustments until it is no longer blinding.

I've done plenty of HID installs into reflector and projector headlights. Even projector can be blinding. As long as you align them correctly, you'll be fine.

If don't want to do the whole retrofit projectors or buy new headlights, Phillips Xtreme Vision globes, $80 from AutoPro/AutoBahn, etc, and trust me, they're good.

Cheers, I'm heading to AutoBahn in the next week or so to do some xmas shopping, so I'll keep an eye out for them when I'm there :D

Check eBay.... Just a few weeks ago I picked up a set of 6000k Standard H4 Halogen Globes (no hid kits involved) for around $25 including postage from Australia. :D

It's hard to find one from Australia as most of the standard halogens only go upto 5000k here.

Here are the specs:
Socket: H4
Color: White
Color Temperature: 6000K
Input Voltage: 12V
Wattage: 60/55W (60W high beam and 55W low beam)

You can probably find one from Hong Kong or thereabouts.

If you don't mind a 100w one (not sure if legal in certain states), heres one for $35 (including postage) from Australia: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2X-HID-Halog ... 2ec2651b20

While your at it, you might wanna pick up some white coloured parkers as well. They go nice with the white halogens. I'll take a pic tonight of my white lighting "system" and post it here. :)

Just a FYI: 100w is non-ADR approved and defectable in every state unless in a foglight/highbeam spot light.
Not to mention that there will be increase current flow in the system, since the 12v is constant, hence W=V*I means I (amps/current) will increase.

And... I'd stay clear of white, yeah they look cool, but if you really want to see where you're going I highly recommend just staying to the 5000K equivilent light...

...

Yeah I had a feeling this would be the case.

I'd stay clear of putting a 100w h4 into the standard head lights, the increased heat from these globes kills the plastic pretty quick, and generally, the bulb will blow 'for no apparent reason'.

I was running 130's in my angel eyes because they were *poo*, it doesnt damage the headlight, but yes they blow all the time..... And u need relays
