i just decided to dump some money into my vrx for a little project and the first upgrade i want to do is install a tomei catback exhaust but having trouble finding one that'll fit my car, does it absoutly have to be suited for my exact car model? or could i just get one that relatively fits and try and make it work? any advice would be great.

you might get a fujitsubo to suit an asti coupe (assuming your vrx is a coupe) if youre lucky. otherwise buy a tomei universal rear muffler and get your local exhaust / fabrication shop to mount it and make up a custom catback exhaust to suit. (if its a sedan, the coupe exhaust will need to be lengthened)
also, theres nothing stopping you buying a catback from another car, but cost verse time: not worth it cause it will need to be cut apart and remade to suit
tl;dr: go to local exhaust shop.
