ok, so this is my first DIY so i took lots of pics
i was really over the whole chrome look, its ghastly imho
ima take no responsibility if you try this and stuff it up, buts its easy and i have faith
Tools i used. Kinchrome shifter, phillips screwdriver, fork, silicone/sealant, black spraypaint, masking tape
original tail light
start by removing the bulbs (simple twist out) and then remove the 3x10mm nuts holding in the tail lights (last bold hidden by wood from amp mount)
then just slide out the tail light
now there are 3x phillips screws you must undo and the 3 bolts (you prolly dont have to take out the bolts, but i did) while your doing this, preheat oven to around 100'c
i used the fork to lever out the screws because of the silicone/glue holding them in
place tail light in over for a few min, check regularly (or until golden brown ) (remember once you finished with the oven, leave the door open for it to breathe, to get that plastic smell/taste out)
now, slowly and carefully start to pry open the tail light, but there are 2x clips that you must be aware of, BE GENTLE! if its still to hard, place it back in the oven, i used the fork to help pry open the cover
with a bit of struggle the cover eventually came off (and remember, dont leave the oven unattended and once your done ensure you turn it off!)
now you can start masking over the light covers, i chose to keep a chrome ring around the light covers
now clean the surface, either using a green kitchen scourer or 1500-2000grit sand paper, then clean the surface (i used meths) and i used the fork to scrape out the old silicone
now spray desired colors and wait till it dries properly, a few coats will be required, and dont rush the spraying, take your time and nice even coats, but dont do what i did and spray against the side of the house (face palm) lay carboard behind or something
almost done! i used meths and a soft cloth to clean off the residue from the masking tape and it came out nice
apply new sealant/glue and replace the cover and replace the 3xphillips screws and 3x bolts (place some weights on top of the light to put pressure on the lights to close it properly)
reattach to the car and make sure you have replace the 3x10mm nuts and bulbs accordingly, and then admire your handy work! (cleaned my car as requested by tryg )
