Warm up / Air Con

hi guys,

I am new to the site and new owner of Auto Lancer CH '07 78,000... I had previously Magna and 380 and was happy with the ride...

I have a question - comparing to our Corolla (manual) - when the car is cold in the morning it has significant vibration to the steering wheel. is this common? it persist for a while until it reaches temperature... then its smooth... also the gear changes in this period are rather funny... well in comparison to much bigger siblings magna/380...

also when Air con is turned on - the car gets vibrations to the steering wheel... this does not go away...

any idea?

i got a car from a car yard so it has 3 months or 5,000 km warranty... id love to hear your opinions so i can hit back with something constructive.

thanks
marcel

is it going through the engine warm up cycle properly, with higher revs until the engines at operating temperature? also when it vibrates with the air con on, does it only happen while stationary idling or does it happen even while cruising?

hey Liam -

yeah the revs are higher at the beginning around 1,000 mark... then it drops to around 750 mark

the air con is more noticeable when stationary...

I've also experienced these vibrations (with A/C on and in the beginning whilst stationary) with Lancers.

I am thinking, it's normal with Mitsubishi as I've owned two different Lancers in the past five years and both have had these vibrations.

Previous Lancer: 1998 Lancer CE GLXi 4DR SED Auto
Current Lancer: 2007 Lancer CH Velocity 4DR SED Semi-Auto

either mine doesn't do it, or I don't notice it, that being said driving comfort is a thing of the past in my car anyway, manual 2006 lancer. I'd be looking at cleaning throttle body, checking spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, etc. someone else might be able to shed more light. not a case of simply adjusting the idle as it's electronic as well.

You also got to remember that the 380s and most Magna's have 6 cylinder (V6) engines compared to 4 cylinders in the Lancers. Also these are larger and much more solid cars compared to Lancers. So they are able to cope with and withstand the pressure of the A/C compressor.

One question, when you change gear whilst the car is still warming up (at higher revs), is the gear change rough (like a slight jerk)?

I'd be hesitant to blame it completely on the engine size, a 380/magna v6 will run the compressor and experience less power drain (or less in the context of the overall engine output), however a 2.4, 4 cylinder should have more than enough juice to easily power it, which makes me personally think it's not running as it should be.

hi all, and thanks

just went for lunch and drove the car...

it is happening no matter if engine warm or cold between RPM 900 - 1,200 - anywhere under or over its fine... any thoughts?

fixed under statutory warranty - they were engine mouths that transferred vibes into whole car

What exactly was the problem and how was it fixed (if you know)?

I have a similar problem and I thought it was normal but seeing as you got it fixed, it would be great if you could explain the situation so I can go about fixing mine.

Thanks.

So the engine mounts were shot? I was thinking if the aircon is causing whole car vibrations there is a solid connection between engine and chassis. Would've found that the aircon just amplified it since it is more drain on the engine etc etc...

Just curious, which engine mounts are most likely to wear out quicker? Front, Rear or Sides?
