sanding out spray runs - acrylic

So as title says, a bit of paint ran and i needa sand it back before the final basecoat. How long should i wait between the coat and sanding it out? I'm assuming between 400 and 800 grit would do the trick unless someone knows otherwise.

Thanks Guys

400 is probably too coarse. 800 is ok, but 1200 might be better depending on how bad the run is. 30 min wait is about sufficient depending on weather and of coarse how bad the run is. Make sure you use very little to no pressure. Since you're rubbing back a run, make sure the paper is backed up with a block to keep it consistent. With fresh paint, I also suggest you use some soap to stop the paper from sticking.

alright, ill try 800 and up. Been about 45mins and the sheds fairly warm. thanks for the info, appreciate it

just finished, wonder how itll look this time lol. I think my spray work is kinda uneven, lines and such. So hard with the bonnet being how big it is. didn't help that my water trap dripped on it in one corner so itll look a little fugly there....I

best way to block runs is to colour in the run with a permanant marker.

then block the run with 600 to flatten and chop the run out.

then block with 800 to smooth the 600 grit scratches.

have you se the gun up properly as well?

what mm is the gun? acrylic shoud be 1.8 to 2mm

is that just so you know where the run is???

spraying primer with 2.0 painting with 1.4. So i'd be better off using the 2.0 to paint? If so i'll do that with a sideskirt and see how it turns out. The bonnet turned out....inconsistent. I don't know what im doing wrong, some areas are smoother than others off the gun. Its probably just down to inconsistent technique.

acrylic is sprayed with a 1.8 to 2 mm gun setup.so is 2 pac primer

2 pac colour and clear is 1.4 mm

technique has alot to do with it.

okay, well 2mm all teh way next time and we'll see how it turns out. Thanks for the advice mate, and yeh I think my technique may be a little off :p.
