led bulb upgrade

hi all , im just wondering has anyone upgraded their standard halogen bulbs { not complete headlight} with led bulbs . what brand did you use and what issues did you encounter if any . thanks in advance .

Halogen bulbs require a mirror reflector to allow the ligh to be thrown out of the headlight. Most reflectors have specific angles and positions of mirrors to get the most amount of light thrown. LED bulbs tend to output their light in different directions/angles (rather, in all directions) when compared to halogen, in regards to the location of the "filament" of the bulb. As a result, most LED bulbs in a halogen reflector will improve your visibility, but at the very high cost of a "dirty"/smudged light output being very unfocused light, and the LED light will be blinding to any one else looking at the front of the car.

Without changing your headlight housing, stick with a higher output halogen bulb, or if you want the benefits of LED, its significantly better to upgrade the headlight housing as well to accommodate the LED bulb by using a projector or a reflector specifically to suit LEDs.

Osram and Philips are my go-to manufacturers of bulbs. Pricey, but they do the job.

yeah , ive been there and done that . problem with the high output halogens is their life span is pretty pathetic . ive used osram and philips and both have had abismal life spans . you can purchase lower lux leds that fall bellow the 5000k mark . that is why i asked the question . thanks .

Lux/Lumen and kelvin are different measurements for different things, you can have a 5000lux 3700k bulb or a 2000lux 6000k bulb, and they will be vastly different with the 3700k bulb being better for "seeing" and the 6000k bulb "better" for reflections. A standard headlight is around 3500-4000lumens for reference, and for halogens, more wattages = more lux, but generally a shorter lifespan
