HID Globe Melted Headlight

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue before or can help me out with a couple of questions.

My G.F recently had her car serviced and when we were driving last night I noticed a burning smell. I pulled over and noticed one of the headlights was filled with smoke. Anyway, to cut a long story short, the HID globe has mysteriously come out of the housing and melted away the thread that locks it in place.

Has this ever happened to anyone before and is it likely to be from a dodgy aftermarket part or has it just been pulled out and not replaced during the service?

Does anyone know if we can replace the housing that the globe locks into (unsure of actual name), or will we need to replace the whole headlight

Not sure if it makes a difference or not but it's on a CH VRX.

Thanks for your help

Should be able to get the parts you need from the wreckers, just take what you need. The bulb was probably too powerful, was it 100W? Because that kind of power is meant for spotlights on 4x4's and the like. Stick to 35W-55W, 35W if possible.

They shouldn't have pulled the light out at all during the service, there's no need to unless you specifically ask them to take a look at that area of the car. Would have probably just shaken loose and fallen out over time.

I just checked the box, it says they are 35W but I think it's a cheapo kit. I'll go to a few wreckers tomorrow and see if I can get something.

Thanks.

are you looking for a black housed light for a CH if you are I have one lying around here that I am looking to get rid of has been boxed up for over 5 years if you are interested let me know which side you are after and I will check to see if I have that side

Hi Christine, are these black housed headlights like the black VRX ones but retro painted instead?

the one that I have is a factory one.... it is still packed up and is in good condition if I remember correctly it has a small chip in the corner this will not affect water leaking.. I still have not had a chance to check out which side it is on I will go take photos and add it to my for sales

no worries, I thought when you said 'black housed light' you were referring to the VRX type lights
