Hey guys new here
Dont know much about lancers but the mrs has started clunking down under or in front of the foot well when were driving round. Wondering if there is anything there in the suspension or swaybars that is renound for wearing out if it might just be the shocks.

Cheers

what kind of clunk, does it happen over a bump or incline, when turning, when going up a driveway?
have you had a look under to see if anythings loose or contacting?

Does happen mostly over bumps like up into the driveway but not always and it sometimes does it without any bumps on the road. Yea Defiantly sounds like something is loose and/or rubbing. Took the wheel off and had a poke around but couldn't see anything too obvious . Didn't test the movement tho coz only had it up on the tyre jack.

Could it be worn bushes? Mine clunks a bit too, it just hasnt bothered me enough to get it looked at lol

Not saying it is this; Kind of sounds like the strut top bearing is worn/dry.
-Can be intermittent as it depends if it is loaded up by the wheel being turned etc.

If your not mechanically minded, take it to a mechanic for a correct diagnosis.
Alternatively, pull it out & inspect, or just re pack with grease to see if it makes a difference.

i agree with 81gl, sounds like the bearing in the tophat has siezed
also being siezed it probably has started undoing the main nut on the shock which could be the clunking noise

i would take the whole shock+spring assembly out of the side thats making the noise take it all apart and regrease the bearing put it back in see if it fixes

I just suppose that CH has the exactly same suspension as CS. My CS is about 200k driven and it did have some clunking in different occasions. Have found fix for them all.

1. Springs upper bearing -> Changed around 210tkm (part no: 40002)
-The springs/Struts upper bearings clonk is usually caused by jammed up bearing witch causes the spring to turn in the plate and tension. And when you hit some bump it frees off the tension and turns.
2. Sway bar's/Stabilizers link -> Got new bolts from local shop and ordered SuperFlex PU bushings -> SUPER! (part no: 40632)
-The clonk comes from metal bolt hitting either the sway bar or front control arm.
-BTW the PU bushings make the front more "go-kart" like :)

CS and CH are the same, Vin on AUDM starts with CS7A or CS6A depending on trim. However in Australia we all call it the CH

"CS" is the chassis number, 99% sure that the CG wasn't actually offered in certain countries... Hence CH's getting named CS'. My mechanic always calls my CH a CS lancer...

Does it make a weird clunking sound on start up and shut down of the engine bmaynard55?

mine make a weird clunking noise as if something is loose - can be over bumps, when slowing down for lights, and on start up and engine shut down.....started happening after I got my clutch replaced....it is defs not a clutch issue tho as I had it looked at...

Great. Keep us updated bmaynard55.

OT: Where does your term "CH" come from then?

Unsure where the term CH comes from, but the CG and CH lancer here both use the CS chassis.. i find when ever looking at suspension parts CS tends to come up rather than CH or CG.. i first noticed it when i got a wheel alignment, it lists the car as a CS.

The worry there about just search for CS when looking for suspension and brakes is that the suspension changes with the change of the engine. And possibly again at the facelift.

Im sure they'd use a different spring and shock combo.. But im assuming the wheelbase/width should be the same

Width wise yes. Though the 4G69 CH's front suspension doesn't bolt upto the 4g94's hubs/LCA.
