ok so i just want explained to me what each does, like what are the options etc.
im not actually planning on buying one any time soon, just dont kno anything about them

so as i understand the SAFC is a fuel controler that lets u adjust how much fuel u use at diff rpms and throttle etc...

what does a piggyback do? same thing or more stuff?
and i understand a EMS is like the whole deal type thing controls everything like u can hook a boost contol up or something?

as i said not looking to buy one any time soon, but out of curiousity but at what point in your modification would u get one
because people say its not worth it early on because u dont have enough aftermarket performance parts
so when is it right how much do u need to have done to your car to make it worth buying one?

Ok. I'll explain really quick. Piggyback computer controls fuel and air ratios ok. You know that!! And pretty much every piggyback have your basic features.

Ems is the brand of a full wire in or plug in ecu. I don't know much about ems, I know alot more about link g4 ecu, controls everything. Just like your standard computer is doing now, but with added features launch control, boost controlling, fuel and ignition timing, map sensor. Just so many more options, and plug a laptop straight into the ecu and know how your car is running.

You really never need to look into this until you boost the standard engine. Until then I wouldn't worry about one dude.

Depending on the piggy back, ones like the Haltechs I believe control timing as well as AFRs.

IMO I reckon SAFCs would be a waste of time and your better off just getting a piggy back and dyno-tune the car.

Although with the CJs ECU they can be re-mapped and reflashed to the EEPROM chip, so hopefully once someone in Syd can do that I'll retune my CJ that way. I'm not sure if the CE can be reflased though, I have a feeling it can't be.

Bahaha least we know what we are talking about and not go find some info. Anyone can search!!

Edit. Still a good read tho. Explained it alot better than I did. I tried to be quick about it. It's a pain using the iPhone!!!

lol any one can search and its alot easier then putting knowledge to words... uve met me in real life you know what im like trying to form a complete sentence that makes sence

lol, yeh i tryed to search but it just kept trying to sell them to me and not explain the differences

by the way one question still left unanswered:
how much does your car have to be modified b4 its worth while getting any of said computers?

Whilst I can't speak for the CE, the CJ even in stock form can get some quite modest gains from a remap, but I guess thats to be expected with how restrictive the electronics in CJs are these days....

But really you should be looking at atleast, exhaust, headers, intake, etc mods before you go to the expense of a piggy-back or SAFC.

yeh, i figured you would get it after you did all the base mods and have the money (for piggyback) just wasnt sure what peoples opinions were on that
and when u go to turbo it you get a standalone EMS

just random question that poped into my head:
can you run DTB's with a piggyback or do you need and EMS?
(in my mind it seems logical that a piggyback would work, because all the car needs is more fuel to compensate for the extra throttle body right?)

[edit] i wish i could retune/reflash my stock ecu.... its a bummer ce's cant, would be awsome ^_^

I already answered this!!

The way your car is now, you don't need to worry about a piggyback or standalone. And I would steer clear away from ems! For the same price you can get a better unit.

I have like double plus more power than you and I'm still running the standard ecu.
I was debating about getting the link g4 storm ecu but working out my wiring issue.

I was looking at 1.4k nz dollars plus wire tuck, and tuning.

i know, i said this in my first post

im more just getting to kno more about them, something i was curious about

lol, oh i didnt mean ME in particular i meant when should someone modifying a car consider getting one
i did want to know for me, but not to buy one

I think you shouldn't worry about a piggyback at all, as it's a waste of money compared to what a standalone can do compared to $$$.

Look into autronic sm4 or link g4. Alot more features and easier tuning than the ems.
