OBD 1997 CE Lancer

Hmmm might be pushing it.

If it does, there'll be an OBDII port under the dash. Even still no gaurantees that a generic scanner will be able to read it. I know my generic scanner can't go commodores up until the VZ which half works, the VE fully works. Before that Holden weren't using a standard protocol.

Yeah I'm not sure if there is one. We had issues with my mates xu6 vt commowhore, we ended clearing all the codes out and that worked.

Damn you guys are fast replying round here.

Thanks for the replies I'll have to have a good look under the dash when I get a chance.
I'll let ya know if I find one.

Thanks for supplying the meaning Ryan.

It should be around near the steering column drivers side. a sort of trapezium looking connector.

Hey I had a look under the dash near the steering column and I found this connector thats looks like it should be it but isnt labelled.
What is it with people and not labelling stuff.

yup definetly OBD connector. It's a shame you don't live nearby cos if you did I could scan it and see if it uses one of the protocols of the unit I have from Jaycar reads.

hi, just thought I'd add my findings..

I've been using evoscan on my vr4 and thought I'd try it on my lancer. Good news is that I was able to log stuff and use the actuators - radiator fans and can't remember the others.. also I was able to see if there were any error codes..

not sure yet if I can flash the ecu as I haven't tried it.. also kinda scared since its the only ECU I have..

so I guess it's safe to say that 96+ lancer do use ODB II port but language is MUT II which is what Mitsubishi Japan (I believe) uses..

hope this helps..

MUT simply means Multi-Use Tool.

It reads and codes your body and engine ECU. You can use it to reset stuff and add functions, like fog lamps (to a vehicle that does not have them), because all CAN vehicles are computer-driven; e.g. no relays or hard switches. All switches in our cars are basically momentary and the computer senses functions via the CAN BUS system.

Hi All,
I got a 98 Mirage CE. And also it has OBD2 port.
However when Im trying to connect to the ECU with OBD2/USB adapter and OBD Doctor software, it is giving an error saying " cannot connect to ECU - CAN ERROR"
I'm just wondering whether it is an issue with the cable or does 98 Mirage compatible with OBD2? (even thought OBD2 adapter plugs in correctly)

Thanks

CE do not have a proper working obd2 port. you cannot read much if any data from it.
many people have tried... all have failed

CE's use an OBD2 port, but the communication protocol is different what what those cheap ELM327 readers and the like use, you need proprietry software and hardware to read. Usually very $$$ unless you find a deal second hand.

Decent ECU readers, even in the trade are sparse. We scan many vehicles but there are some that require one off machines or the mega bucks ones ($30k+).

Put it this way, even some holden dealers don't have the readers anymore, they go to independent mechanics that have the readers.

Unfortunately the CE does require specific protocol. Luckily enough as they're such a simple vehicle you can generally narrow down the fault without scanning it if you have the time. Or just find a mechanic to do it for you that has the equipment.

Why are you trying to scan it?

Thanks for your comments guys.
I got the "check engine" light running for quite some times and I suspect it's something to do with o2 sensors or spark plugs etc. And also I'm interested in seeing the other information the scan is providing as well.
Yes I agree since it is such a simple car, the issue can be narrowed down easily.
