Hi Everyone.
I have a 2001 CE MR Coupe thats had a little work done to it. I am actually scratching for info on the car,
as it needs some work at the moment.
I bought it 6 months ago as a good running car, then the adjustable cam gear came loose at the drags and it has destroyed the pistons and busted a valve spring.
Lucily, that was after it ate a $300k Porsche. That was funny.
It is a built motor, stroked and forged. its running a GT35/40 I think at 20psi.
It makes 300hp at the front wheels, and is capable of around 400 on C16 fuel.
It has a EMS 8860 and a shedload of other goodies.
Tuned by Justin at Blacktrack performance.
Ill try and upload some photos. It was built around 9 years ago and used to get around Newcastle with the plates DCEVNU
If anyone recognises it or has any info on it please let me know.
Thanks. Ben.
Great forum by the way! I wish I had of looked into this earlier. Me and computers and stuff, you know.

Welcome to the forum Ben.
I think I saw you a few cars back from me at MCM Nats, I went to find you during the day but I think you left early.

nice :)
the adjustable cam gears always struck me as a risky proposition.
with such a large turbo i would have thought the 'safer' option would be more boost!

Yeah. Thats where it happened.
The best ET on the day was a 13.2@118mph. I just couldnt get it off the line.
The best the PO did was a 12.4@125, that was on 98ron.

I agree. Unfortunately, I dont know what the engine builder had in mind, I also dont know where the cam was set.
I need to work out where to put it as I set it a zero and that put the timing too far forward and is what ate the head and pistons.

I had Special piston services in Dandenong make me a new set of pistons, as they were custom made CP pistons that came from a guy in Puerto Rico and I am taking the head in today to see what they can do.

Thanks for the comments guys.

oh i thought you had contact between piston to valve. that looks like major detonation issues.

I struggled all day, couldn't get below a 14. MPH's were down as well.
Then I too had a mechanic hiccup with oil coming out of my spark plug tube seals and some mismatched rocker cover bolts not helping my case either. Eventually got it back out again.

Justin from Blacktrack performance said he can tune it for E85 with new injectors, then itll get closer to the 500hp mark.
I think thats completely useless on a FWD. It slips and skids all the way through 3rd and into 4th as it is. Its got achilles 123s on the front which are great when they are warm, but pretty slippery if your just puttering around the street.
I should have had it tuned when the cam gear slipped. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Also didnt help that the loose nut behind the steering wheel ran out of talent pretty quick.

Damage to all 4 pistons. Progressively worse from 1 to 4. The pic is 4.

So you live in Melbourne but bought the car from the Sydney area?

Also when you say stroked motor, does it have a 4G94 crank? It would be odd to use the crank and not block in my opinion.

And as a final suggestion, if I were you I would consider just dropping a stock 4G93/4 motor into it and running 12psi or so, and maybe upgrade in the future as you will still have a quick and fun car

No, I live in Newcastle. Not sure about the crank, all info is very sketchy. And your right, I have a spare 93 here, I could just drop it in and have a quick, fun car. It would probably be a lot more drive-able too. But pulling away from a brand new supercharged LSA Senator makes me giggle.

Cheers.

thought E85 with the same boost would have much greater safety margin, even if it's just for the track.

Yeah, I want to look at an E85 tune for it, but it was pretty much unheard of 10 years ago. Thats why it has a C16 tune.
But at $20 a litre, I wont be using that tune.
