Mechanical issues/questions

Hey, now there are a few thing i have noticed in the time i have owned my ch, i have done the usual google search, found out what it could be. Just wondering if someone could confirm and/or give how much they have had to pay to fix :)

So just to clarify, the car now has 95,000kms, it is an 07 CH es.

Problem 1) I have noticed that my car squeaks over even the tiniest of bumps, i beleive this is the suspension wearing out. However a google search said it could also be one of the bushes or even the cv joint? If it is my suspension easy fix, ill buy coils. But if it is one of the bushes or the cv joint, how much would i be looking at to fix? Im pretty syre its like 3/4 hours work to change the cv joint?

Problem 2) I have also noticed a "clicking" sound which once again appears to be coming from the front right side of the car every time the wheel is turned. The google searches cane up with only one answer, once again it said it was the cv joint clicked because the boot has a leak and has lost its grease? Fair enough, now do these normally get changed with the major service? (100,000km) if so then that explains why! Once again if anyone could help with an approx cost id be grateful :)

I can't vouch for the ch(jeffaz will be able to confirm/deny) but putting coils in will squeak anyway when going over bumps/up driveways(could just be ce).

So the squeeking is just a normal thing then? Not like a dead shock or so? I only said that as i plan on getting coils for the ch, and if the suspension dies, what better excuse to convince dad! xD

Nah I wouldn't say the squeaking is normal in your case. But with coilovers on a ce it's normal. But the benefit of having coils outweighs the annoyance of squeaking.

My car use to squeek. I had no idea why then I noticed the bolt that holds down the spare tyre wasn't tight. The squeaking was the rubber rubbing (lol).

Does the clicking only come on when the wheel is turned or do you mean when you're going around a corner?

When the car is moving and the wheel is turned! So yea, around a corner :p

Spare tire is held down properly, only options are the sway bar bush or shock then?

So ill get the cv joints checked then!

Problem 1 :
My CH suspension seems a bit squeaky too but not bad enough that it worries me. I think it's normal for these.

Problem 2:
Sounds like the cv joint for sure.
Cv joints aren't very expensive from memory. I've had them done previously in my liberty and remember being surprised at the price being heaps less than I had thought.

The CV joints aren't too costly, had the ones on my CC done after almost 250k because of vibration under acceleration. Labor does add a chunk to the over all cost though, so if you can do the work or know someone who can help it can save heaps.

Maybe take it to Pedders for their 30 point check for $28 (I think) they will find anything that is wrong but unless your car is new be prepared for a long list

CV joint if if clicks/knocks while turning in one direction and not the other (unless both cv's are *fudge*ed). If it only clicks when you move the steering wheel and you don't have to be actually moving, it's a boot rack.

Got the day off tomorrow, ill try find a pedders around somewhere local, get that check done. Hopefully get it sorted before the cruise too

Cv joints usually have a fair bit of life left in them from the time they start clicking to the time they actually let go but of course sooner is better =]

Also depending where you are I recommend the place I went for cv joints its on the corner of peacock and McIntyre road para hills

Ill see what i can conjur up ;) ill also see if i can be productive and make some for of secret modification for the cruise xD

If you go to Pedders (or any suspension place) just tell them whats happening. Also don't rely on one place, when trying to find out why mine was vibrating I was told everything from needing a new clutch to out of balance wheel. Which was unlikely since it was only happening under acceleration. Finally spoke to a great mechanic who knew what the problem was right away.

So don't rely on one places opinion before getting work done.

Im just abit shocked as it spent 10 days at the mechanic my dad takes his car to, and my dad trusts this mechanic with his life, so abit shocked that there could actually be something wrong.

i have seen clicking coming from tie rod ends as well. best way to check is to get the car in the air and shake down the tire. if it clicks at 3 and 9 oclock its prolly a tie rod end, you can find out for sure when you do move it if you can see movement from the tie rod end, or if the clicking comes from the inner tie rod itself. if it clicks noon and 6 oclock its prolly a wheel bearing. if its pretty solid and no clicking from shaking it down, i would then assess the cv joint. its tough assessing a cv shaft for noise because you can wiggle them and hear clicking on an otherwise good cv shaft. the squeaking definitely sounds like a bushing or could be the rubber strut hat. i really cant tell for sure as i'd have to see it. as with anything suspension, if you replace wheel bearing, tie rod end, inner tie rod, strut, or cv shaft, you need to get an alignment. good luck on your repairs.

Agree with Lancer1993, don't take the first opinion you get.
[apologies for the waffle] I took my car for a pedders 28 point check (the free one). I told them the cars symptoms, they popped my car on their shake n bake machine which was good for a laugh. Afterwards told me all my shocks needed replacing and that I needed front lower control arm bushes replaced. I went and purchased KYB shocks and had them installed by another company I trust and they said my old shocks were fine. Had my mechanic check out my lower control arm bushes and they were fine (got to see for myself). Problem I had was unrelated to suspension. Don’t get me wrong, it was great peace of mind to get the free inspection done and to know that the car wasn’t broken or there weren’t any loose bolts, but getting that second opinion saved me a lot of money. As I mentioned, watching it get madly shaken from side to side and front to rear was worth it also :p

The CV joint place is called Adelaide CV, operated by Klaus (dad’s friend). He is also a mechanic, so you could get him to look at the other issue too. Hope you can get rid of the clicking and annoying squeaking soon!
