I guess anyone with the above problem would have gotten their letter in the last mth or two about the airbags are in stock at dealers now and can be fitted to your vehicle.
I got my letter to replace my CH 04 airbag (passenger) and just have to make an appointment, but i am having second thoughts about it. The procedure involves removing the full length dash (whole dash left to right) the procedure I am told takes about 4-6 hrs and the car will be needed for a whole day.
I have read a few stories on different forum's the last few weeks about problems arising after fitment regarding different components in the customers car's malfunctioning after this procedure like gauge / warning lights / climate control problems and strange noises/ rattles. A friend of mine got her CH lancer airbag done and 2 days later when she tried the air-con it wasn't getting cold??, she rang dealer and they said it was fine as they "checked everything" before she picked up the car so it wouldn't have been anything they did ???
Seeing the car is 12 years old she took it to an air con installer to check it out, turns out a component was damaged when dash was refitted, dealer wasn't interested as he said it was prob just a failure from age?
My question is do you think its worthwhile to do this replacement versus the chance of any damage being done. I read that the chances of actually having one of the faulty units as determined by recent testing on already failed units and unused old stock was at best, very very slim.
As most of my driving 95% of the time is with just me in the car, add that % to the very very slim failure rate versus possible problems after fitting has me thinking twice about it?
What does everyone else thinking?
