Lancer ch wagon questions

Hi everyone.

Im new here and I own a 2005 Mitsubishi lancer wagon. Its got the 2.4 litre in it, 5 speed manual. By far my favourite car to own so far.

Ive got a couple of modifications I want to do in the coming months and the first is upgrading it to 17 inch wheels and tyres. I was just seeing if any of you have gone to 17s, and I want to know what width wheel and what tyre works the best.

I have lined up some enkei rpf1 wheels and want to put bridgestone re003 tyres on them.

Any help would be great

Thanks
Jarryd

Hi Jarryd
Welcome to the club and another wagon owner, i have a 12/04 lancer wagon which has an original american ralliart body kit fitted with orig evo 7 wagon rear spoiler and heaps of other modifications , i'm just in the process of refurbishing my coilovers before refitting them, using combination of BC racing & pedders coilover parts.
As far as wheels go best choice would be 17" x 7" with a 38p-46p offset to keep it reasonably legal, either fitted with a 205/40 x17 or 215/40 x 17, both those sizes will be the correct rolling diameter so your speedo won't be out too much (1%-2%) tolerance at worst, still give you a reasonable ride as well.

As for tyres thats a personal choice, the Bridgestone RE003 are quite good as well, like i said everyones different so whatever you want to try.!

The vrx wagon's/sedan run a 25 mm lower spring than standard es models, so clearance will not be a problem with either as long as your springs are not worn out from too many klms of heavy loads.

Any other questions on future mods, just fire away.

cheers

Nice! I was hanging out for a set of rpf1's for my CH but ended up getting a set of Evo9 wheels. Specs on those are 17x8 +38. They catch on the front VRX lip and the rear outer guard section with 225/45R17. So you will need to modify the front lip and roll the rear guards to fit something of that spec, any smaller should be just fine :)

This is the specs of the wheels

The RPF1's your looking at above are 7.5" wide with a offset of +42p, it will be a close call going from a 7" to 7.5" and a high 42p offset, so tire size will be critical.

Your standard tires on a vrx wagon will be a 195x50 R16 which has a rolling diameter of 601.40 mm, so the 215/40 x 17 would be ideal as the rolling diameter will be

603.80 mm, in other words while your driving at 100 kph your speedo will read 99.60 which is only ( 0.40% too slow), in other words bugger all.

As for the wheels above, as SDate42 said above, you may find it hitting somewhere depending on how worn your springs are/wheel alignment settings etc, my gut feeling is it should be ok, but just, give it a go worst case scenario is maybe rolling guard or play with align..settings, but should be ok with the above tires i mentioned.

cheers :sunglasses:
