Hi i just brought a ce 1.8lt lancer its done 215k after a week of driving it i accelarated pretty quick to get in a gap. The car reved up and then just droped to about 100rpm. and with my foot flat to the floor it took about 2 secs to finally kick back in. Also i realized that when idling is got either a misfire or backfire and a bit of a flat spot first thing in the morning please help

Not that much info to go by but if the problem is idling @100 rpm or off idling flat spot i would suspect a problem around the throttle body (especially idle control motor) also check vacumn hoses/lines., also make sure fuel pressure is normal (ie. not faulty pump or part blocked fuel filter) ?

Sounnds like multiple problems all interacting together. Like the revs dropping substantially could be about 6 different things, flat spots could be the same 6 things or 6 other things. Probs best to try look at em 1 by 1 and cross em off a list. Also we need more information. Does it only happen at certain times or only when hot or only when cold, does the amount of throttle you give it affect it or it happens regardless? Any other noises or sounds? Any new sounds you're hearing lately? And vibrations, noises etc you can hear when it does happen?

TPS adjusted
Throttle body clean
No intake leaks/split hoses
No gasket leaks (small oil leaks are ok, wouldnt cause these problems)
Spark plugs
Coil packs
Idle speed control switch
Oil is too thin
Check loom for unattached plugs
Clean filters
Fuel pump/lines

If CE has a timing belt suggest you check . Had similar problem with a Telstar. Also noticed periodic, consistent miss when climbing a long hill at a steady pace. Stretched timing belt, new timing belt fixed it.

If possible borrow an ECU, temporary change over and test. Easy to do.

No knowledge on the TB side of things but from what I understand the ECU swap is a no go. Imobiliser needs to match etc. Not a quick easy job. Pretty sure on CE's if you pull the battery for long enough the ECU resets its memory or similar? (One of the experts confirm aha?). Also would be extremely extremely rare for the ECU on a stock CE to have an issue. They're almost an abacus by today's standards aha.

Random thought, might not even be related but check crank angle sensor maybe? Might be shorting or something?

Ok so today i decided to use a throttle body and manifold cleaner it helped a bit but i notice that when stationery and throttle up slowly there is no issues but when u put the hammer down it just wont go up it just coughs and splutters any thoughts thanks. I sold my subaru to get a more reliable car

Thanks for all your help everyone iv replaced the throttle body, tps, icv, fuel filter, spark plugs and now waiting apon the coil packs to arrive its been getting worse now when cruising every now and then it stutters and at lights when i accelerate it coughs and splutters. When i got home i tried to rev it hard to see what would happen. Guess what coughing and spluttering after 3 to 4 secs of that. It revs up fine. What the hell is going on with this car

Ok i just done a test with the airflow meter with the engine running i unpluged it and it idled great and revs up every time. Dose that mean its faulty or another component is stuffed. Also is it safe to drive with it unpluged thanks
