Just joined. Bought a brand new CJ ES Sport three months ago. Past cars have been upmarket types in keeping with business needs. Now retired and enjoying this little bundle of fun. Only gripe (little one) its noisy, Yokohama tires, wind noise and engine noises. Lucky! All I have to do is remove my hearing aids HA HA. Seriously though I am in the process of sound deadening. Have found products from Clark Rubber terrific and cheap. So far have completed boot now closes with a thud not a tinny clank. Under bonnet, due to limited clearance used deadening in cavities between bracing and refitted original back in place makes it heavy to lift for an old guy but OK. Also used spray on deadener, under body. Wheel archers are next. Then the doors and interior floor and firewall. Roof? Have bought a decibel meter yesterday and will monitor results. So far noticeable difference in noise reduction. engine, road and (wind, shhhhh how did that happen)

Welcome to the club and sounds like some great progress. I't would be interesting to see what the decibel meter shows after each stage of deadening and which parts of deadening work best or least.

Thanks Res for your response. Took car out today armed with dB meter along Western Ring Road. Was on my own, so rather awkward. picked quieter parts to take dB A readings, accuracy? As follows. idle=39 50kph=54 80kph=62
100kph=66. Cant justify this next assumption because I had already sprayed the rest of the under body but noticed rear suspension is attached to the body via a big metal box, suspect this would act like a drum. Like to hear from someone
who just sprays that box with a good couple of coats of body deadener, to see if I am right?

Q? Would these be more helpful and better served if placed in cj column and how do I do that?

Sorry Res thought I had with my next entry but apparently should have included it or part of it as a reply to you. Thanks Res for your warm and meaningful response. Have included results taken decibel meter in that thread and will
keep updating as I get things done. Hope to eventually pass on exactly what I have used along with named material. Photos? By the way couple of helpful hints. (1) cutting a tube or pipe end, square without correct
equipment.= Get a large enough sheet of paper, wrap it around the tube so all edges are equal and mark with Texta or whatever. or if exposed area is waste, spray paint and remove paper for a dead square mark.
(2) Removeing pant etc from plastic = Brake fluid (test first for comparability). Once again THANKS RES

Hi peregrine, and welcome to the club as well, you should find any info you may ever need here or just ask away.

I see your profile says 81 yrs and Michael guessed 65 yrs, are we getting warm ?

Don't worry, a few other "old school" fellas are on here as well, won't mention any names ........ hmmm ......i will say no more............

Cheers
