Hi first time post. Just wanted to post some handy information that I learned by trial and error.
Son bought a fairly unroadworthy 2001 lancer to get on the road, but as we started to tick jobs off the list of repairs he lost the key and as I learned the hard way, it was game over for that car. I then decided to buy a near perfect unregistered 2002 Mirage and make one from the two. Anyway, I found that tricking the computer didn't work for me to get around the immobiliser. I was curious to know just what is needed to fire the motor up and it turns out all you need is a key by the sensor and a paired immobiliser box found just above where your left knee would be. So, the ECU and key sensor can stay the same. I am going to try modify the box some day.
On another note the Lancer had a Tacho dash fitted but the speedo and Tacho didn't work, turned out to be just a track with a hair line break. easy fixed. I pulled apart the two units and swapped the speedos so the KM's stayed the same, And yes the KM's are recorded in the speedo unit, not the ECU.
Cheers.
