Hey Everyone, nice to meet you. 22 Year old, uni student, part-time worker. Recently Purchased a new 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer ES Sport Sedan, 6 Speed CVT. Happy with my purchase, but looking to upgrade a few things soon etc. exhaust, air filter kit, RA Air Scoop etc. Anyone with any knowledge please help me out haha.

Good to know a lancer community exists out here in Australia! Live in Sydney, so traffic + the fuzz is a constant battle. So yeah, looking to do a few crucial modifications, nothing too hasty though. Anyone with a similar spec hit me up and let me know if you've done anything so far. Obligatory Photo included.

Welcome to the forums man! Can't say there are too many guys on here with newer model Lancers, but lots of us do have the info and can help you with what you need. Keen to see how you want to and do progress with your build!

Unless you want to bring the fuzz down on you, keep away from a pod filter. Very little gain and possibly a loss can be the result, word from expert Merlin!! RA snorkel is a great asset but needs the front panel
at the front of the snorkel to be opened up, would include picture but not sure how. (You can find heaps at ClubCJ) There's more on the internet as well. Existing snorkel is restrictive.
Other safe mods? Include 2.25 inch or 2.5inch muffler or if you prefer, cat back?Under stand both those are OK with warranty but check first as I did.
appearance wise once again there are heaps you can do. I think the CJ/CF lancer was built as a platform for modifiers. Some needed to keep up to date.

Hey, Thanks! Yeah definitely a small group own the new ones, but i'm sure it wouldn't be too different from older lancer models, hopefully.

Hey, could you please explain a little more in regards to the pod filter? I thought removing the existing air filter which is oem could add a few hps in regards to the flat panel vs round??? I'm not too sure on it though. RA snorkel is a definite go to, also yes I will need to do something about the front plastic which is located just before he bonnet edge. Getting air from the outside to the inside is going to be tough haha. CLUB CJ is a haven for me, but I will need to be careful because its not all aus specs and regulations, so I take their advice with a pinch of salt. Exhuast modification on the way, with resonator, tip, muffler, catback 2.5 inch. Piping and headers from engine to rear. Just need some time to put the cash aside haha. I don't want to go full bodykit style on the car, and I do like the front grill aggressive look, but there's a few things I'd like to change etc. hood, fenders, rear spoiler, rear roof spoiler (black), roll the guards, headlights, tint, etc. Will be a while

Overseas content is minimal. Re: pod filter, Merlin is a tuning guruu who specializes in in tuning our 4B11 engines traveling
between states when requested and demand is enough. He goes as far as to even say the oem filter element is pretty good.

By the way even Mitsubishi realized the original snorkel was too restrictive. putting 25 holes in the snorkel
well passed all the fancy bits, to ease the problem. Just rub your hand under the existing snorkel about under the battery
and there are all those holes dragging in hot air and making that ugh! wissy noise under acceleration

Still not sure on whether to change pod filet or not. By the way, i'm always seeing this merlin guru pop up in the forums, does he modify the ecu for 4b11 engines? If so, will it crack the 5 year warranty my car came with? Yes, snorkel will soon be replaced with RA.

I think I remember a forum in ClubCJ stating he hadn't had that happen but check with him.

Pod filters are illegal unless in an enclosed box. As a general rule you don't gain any power from switching to a pod filter though, if anything you lose power. But you get a different induction noise, which is up to personal preference. You could replace the stock panel filter with a K&N filter but in terms of power increase it also does sweet F all. But over a few years the cost of a single K&N filter will be cheaper than 3+ stock filters replaced during servicing. You are probably pushing *poo* uphill as far as wanting to reflash the 4b11 ecu. Would be more worth your time to do a full exhaust, cold air intake, port and polish the intake manifold and get a bigger throttle body, maybe stage 1 cam upgrade. At this point you're maxing out your bang for buck power mods and would be better off doing braking and handling mods. Lancers aren't straight line warriors, better suited to cornering so concentrate on that. If you want straight line speed, you bought the wrong car. Sell it and buy a ralliart CJ.

Yeah, pod filters are not going to make much difference, though the sound is something pleasing for me. Exhaust and suspension, swaybars is on my list, but i want to work from the front of the car to the rear first, as in doing as much as a i can etc. Ra snorkel, pod filter K&N, mishimoto radiator, cold air intake definetly. Also I've heard alot of good things in terms of 4b11 ecu tuning from clubcj members on models ranging from 08 to 17. Throttle body maybe, port polish is a no go for me, would definetly f it up somehow. Cam upgrade is something ive never thought about, but would need to be compatible. Braking and handling mods has been recommended to me time and time again, and everyone always mentions the cornering part haha so im happy to that. Thanks for that.

Edit: from 06 to current lancers
