Front Upper Strut and Pod Filter

Hey guys,

So i havent been active in the forums for a while, ive been contemplating my next mods. Ive decided on installing a front upper strut brace (across the engine bay) and a simple pod filter on my 2003 CH ES. Both jobs seem simple enough, just wanted to get some thoughts on the mods first.

1. Ive researched the installation of the strut brace and it seems to be very simple, literally remove 3 nuts on each side, put on brace and retighten nuts. Am i missing something? Or is that really all there is to it?

2. With my pod filter i am fairly sure its a simple install aswell, basically removing the current system and putting the pod on (with the help of an adapter). I was wondering if anyone has done this and is it worth it? Ive heard i can actually lose some power with installing one. Anyone have some thoughts on this?

Thanks

1) Yeap, thats literally all there is to it. Dont jack up the car or anything, and the suspension wont fall out ;) bonnet up, undo 3 bolts each side, brace on, bolts back on, bonnet closed.

2) As i dont have a CH, i cant comment on this. If the pod is in an area where it only gets hot air from around the engine, it can cause a minor loss in power.
Hot air is less dense, which is why it rises, and colder air is denser. The more air you have in an area (density), theoretically the more powerful the combustion process in the car.
Try to place the pod in an area where it can get at least some of its air feed from a cold/non engine bay source and you'll be alright

Thats wht i like to hear, simple installation haha.

Yeh thats what ive read, hot air from the engine causing power loss. There is an intake that is connected to the current system which brings the cold air in from the front of the car, i was thinking of maybe finding a way of securing it after ive put the pod filter in so that it continues to filter the cold air in from the front.

Im just not a big fan of putting mods in that will decrease my cars performance, considering i just want that cool sucking sound that a pod filter makes haha

Ch already has a factory cold air intake, it's not the least restrictive intake, but unless you are going to do a foglight intake I wouldn't bother changing it.

Just out of curiosity, would anyone have a picture of an installed upper strut or pod filter on same model lancer? Or even a few year younger, still same basic setup.

Would be helpful

i was worried that strut brace would maybe unbalance things but it doesnt seem that it would..... very interesting about the factory CAI....

[edit] **installation of brace... not the brace itself.... duhhhhhh :p

Thanks for the pictures guys

and ill let you know how it goes, should be installing it all sunday, ill post pictures of finished product when i get a chance aswell

I've put a POD on mine and next week am having some SS intake piping made up for it for cheap, just so it's not sitting in the middle of the engine bay.

It's basically sitting at the end of the floppy rubber thing illegally mounted held down by zip ties.

They have no effect on performance, just exhaust note. I have Lukey muffler and it's much growlier now, especially a high rpm. Downside is if they are mounted in a spot which is mostly surrounded by hot air then in summer it will be a little sluggish, but for about $30-40tops most good zorst mechanics will make up some steel piping for you and mount it where you want it. There's a nice big space just under the battery :)

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this topic.

I have installed it all with ease, I even made a makeshift harness for the pod filter to that it doesn't flop around. Sounds great, bit more of a bite to the overall note.

Only problem now is figuring out how to install a pod cover I purchased from autobarn. It is the perfect size but doesn't seem to have any sort of mounting points, its smooth all over, thinking it over past few weeks, haven't come to any conclusions yet, might just leave it exposed in the end.
