ce 4g93 and 4g15 do not have knock sensors. i have reflashed with ceddymods evo5/6 and am getting cel due to no knock sensor. knock is monitored and apparently sets 7-9 counts by default when signal is not received, signal broken, dead sensor etc. this forces into low octane map. for this i have installed a knock sensor with sheilded wire to pin 78 on the ecu, which is knock sensor on evo 4/5/6 ecu.
the ceddymods map on stock 4g93 ecu is going well, appears to work as it should. knock is reading however doesn't seem to be very sensitive in picking up knock in low rpm/idle. but works during normal running
there are adjustment tables and they make a change to the behavior, so would just need tweaking i guess.
the main issue im focusing on knock sensors is i want to have it well prepared for hard driving even in the low octane map on 91! however. ecu map say timing for rpm/load is 5 and getting 15 degrees at idle. so stab throttle ping ping. pre ignition. been playing with it a fair bit but im actually having to back things off a fair bit from factory settings to achieve this. so blaming the comp ratio and the *poo*ty 91 and other things, i confirmed the stock ecu does as set in the map at idle unlike the evo ceddymap.
i have successfully eliminated all other knock readings throughout the rev range and have stable afr at wot and pretty standard around the cruise areas. just idle being a pain, it does it slightly with stock ecu but no where near as bad, in evoscan check the ig 5deg BTDC box and then it acts similar to stock ecu at idle/stab revs, but gutless near 2k upwards. so timing is the issue, and *poo* fuel.. haha the question is how to lower it below 15..... if its possible
have not really gone to deep into power tuning yet as im trying to replicate the stock running and improve where needed as a useable base map for these cars first.
every item needs to be calibrated to the engine if its going to perform well so with *poo*e fuel and low timing we have a safe starting point. the goal here is using knock sensor switching, between high and low octane maps, 98 and 91.
summary:
knock sensor working but needs dialing in
evo map has odd high ign timing at idle despite map settings being same as stock
power tuning not gone too far yet, but afr is high 12 low 13 under wot.
another thing to note, i have rigged up a serial cable output from wideband to usb to pc and logging it in evoscan. works fantastically
