5G ECU on 4G engine (1.8L)

Sup all,

So in my random thinking time throughout the day, I thought, if you could put a CE 1.8 ECU on a CC 1.8, you could then flash it using Tactrix and not have to chip it with ECMlink, and since they are more or less the same engine (hardware wise, I'm aware of orientation) i started looking at ECU pin-outs, wondering if making up a boom-slang harness to adapt the ECU.

I compared the pinouts of the 4th gen and 5th gen ECU and found the common signals, signals which were non existant and signals which could possible be a direct replacement of a CE part (eg, swap the throttle body as they use different pins.

Just wondering peoples thoughts on this. This could be near impossible, or could be done a million times i haven't heard of it.

The appeals of this to me over standalone or ECMlink.

  • More or less a free way to play around with a bit of tuning (borrow Ryans tactrix and get an ECU from the wreckers)
  • its not permanent, I can unplug the boomslang harness and go back to standard ECU if something goes wrong or for sale etc
  • should be more or less doable by myself, ie not paying a heap for someone to wire it up for me.

Also, can the 5th gen ECUs have the immobiliser removed/disabled via flashing.

Cheers

do a diy with very comprhensive info if u do do it
i dont know of anyone who ahs done it either, so u could be breaking new ground, which needs thorough documentation so others can do it

do u recon its doable after looking at the pinouts?

To be honest, I have no flipping idea haha. But hopeful.

The switching wires bit is (should be) easy, just have to work out what is nessesary of the stuff in red.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the engine for the 5th gen 1.8L?

Alot of guys in EVO1/2/3 use newer EVO ECUs only for the fact that they can be flashed easier, its only changing a few wires
But..... you will need to wire up the OBD2 plug etc
