4G93 worn out cam

Yep solid adjustable, a friend of mine is an engineer so I had him take a look at it while he was in town. (I know in the OP I said I took it to the local mechanic which I did but that was just to get a quote for the work + he wanted to see for himself) The lobes on 3 & 4 exhaust have worn pretty bad. 4 is the worst there's a pretty good gouge there that was obvious even to me once he pointed it out, and this has also caused some irregular wear to the roller :(

Can you tell me how many k's on it and what made you pull it down and clean it up was there an issue? If you had a shop do it have you got receipts for the work? Also I have to ask why you're not using it yourself? and just to confirm we are talking about the complete assembly?

Can you remember if it was the reco job or the actual conversion that was giving him trouble? If his reco work is okay it's going to be my best option unless jordz comes through with the goods for me.

Appreciate all the input guys, thank you
175xxkms was a spare motor I had in shed before car got rear ended.
did it all myself. was going to make ports bigger to allow more air flow etc.

Just an update to close off this thread.

Installed 2nd hand cam and roller rockers last week, all by myself and totally stoked with the job.
Car is running smoother and quieter than ever and no longer an embarrassment to drive around.
It's the first time I've ever attempted something like this and couldn't be happier with the outcome, not to mention the money I saved!
Last few days I've been driving around with no music just to enjoy the 'silence' hahaha

Thanks everyone for the input :)

Next up I have a set of GTi calipers to install once I get my hands on a rebuild kit - thinking I'll paint them gold

Good stuff bud! Just make sure you check the valve clearances after a couple hundred kms to make sure they've stayed tight and at the correct clearance

Great work.
Did the second hand cam have any wear on it?
Did you install all the parts in the same positions as they came from?
Torque to right spec?

Thanks!
Cam didn't have any unusual wear for a used item - not that I would know 100% really but I did read a bit about it and satisfied myself before installation. No pitting was evident and I even bought a set of vernier calipers to take some measurements which easily met the tolerances. Only thing I noticed was a slight discolouration where the rollers would have been contacting the lobes.
No way to know if the rockers are in the same positions as the second hand head had been previously dismantled - I reused my own rocker shafts for this reason as the other ones were installed incorrectly - I don't think there were torqued down all the way but it was enough to make me wonder if they might have been off balance. Nothing wrong with mine anyway so I just cleaned them up a little.
Everything was absolutely torqued down correctly and double checked.
