02' GLi 1.8 fog light problem

So, late model lancer. Car never came with foggies and I put an MR bar that had foggies on it since I liked the look. Found that there was a loose plug hanging on the loom behind the bar that was taped up on both sides, connected it to the fogs and it's clicked.

I didn't have the fog switch song hit up the local wreckers joint and took on there, popped it in and connected the loose plug there.
Looked like it was working since I had the clicked the switch on and it made the warning chime go off when I had the door open.

Checked it at night to see if it was really working but for some reason, when I flicked the switch. The Parkers lit up, flicked off and Parkers went off.

Confused asf, anyone here able to shine some light on this subject?

Thanks boys and girls!

Bit strange.. but starting with the easy things, have you got bulbs in the fog lights? Fog light relay plugged in? (Unsure if it uses a seperate one). Weird that the parkers go off and on..

Yeah man, I checked if there was a bulb in there aswell. Thought the bulb was dead so planned to search eBay for some new h3 bulbs. Only to find the Parker's lit up.

Did you happen to know where I can find the Relay for it?

Not making too much sense of your post, but the foglights are only meant to be able to come on when the parker/low beam lights are on. If you only turn on the foglights, the parkers/low beams should come on as well

According to the books it says B-04X is the relay for the fogs. I've found that this copy isnt always 100% spot on, but I've uploaded some snippets for you. It does show a strange wiring config for the fogs that seems to intermingle with the parkers and the headlight circuit with only one diode to stop the backfeed powering any of the circuits. This could be causing your odd lights on/off situation.

Post is a little hard to follow, i gather you got got a MR bar with fogs and fitted it to you car, on fitting you found a wiring plug on your car and plugged the harness into it and it clicked (dont know if you mean the plug clicked or the relay)doubt it would be the relay as if you didn't have the mr fogs to start with you more than likely don't have a relay.
Then went to wreckers an found a factory fog light switch, connected it and the car's chime for lights left on when ign off went off, is that right?

Sounds to me you are getting feedback though the harness via the earth circuit due to the fact that relay (if fitted) and or the fog light switch/ or the plug you attached at the front of the car you found to the fog lights are connected incorrectly/faulty. It could also be the fact that you have not connected a satisfactory earth wire to the harness causing some feedback issues, unless you know how to check a wiring colour code/circuit diagrams/ earth/power with dig/analogue meter than it may start to get a little tricky.
  • I think the later model CE's have the wiring in harness already in the factory loom, from memory the relay for the park lights also is used by the fog lights as well, and the early CE's base models did not, maybe someone with a CE can answer this question as i don't have a wiring diagram for that year handy?
But from what you are saying the harness is already in place in your 02 model, if that's the case then it should be plug and play by connecting fog light harness at side of radiator to front light harness and plug in light switch in dash, just make sure the earth connection is grounded well, also could be a faulty relay causing your parking light problem if relay does in fact share with fog lights.

If you don't have the harness then it gets a little more complicated.

You're pretty much spot on with what I've tried to explain. When I get the chance to, I'll defs check out this earthing issue of mine. Still gonna go through with the h3 bulb order.
But thanks again for well... Going in detail with the brief information I've given you.

I just got help from my foreman today with this fog light problem after work. We found that there is a ground going to the fogs but no power is. Apparently it has something to do with a relay?

If that's the case. Where can I find this relay. Where is it located?

(I'm not the best with the electrical side of things

Check out the two fuse/relay boxes in the engine bay and the one in the drivers footwell. Also note there is a relay box in the footwell too, kind of upside down, it is possibly one of those. Test continuity between the pins and the positive supply to the fogs to confirm you have the right circuit. I dont have a CE anymore so I can't show you anything or confirm anything but you can find most of this info with a quick google..

I found I had the same issue with mine but when I created a loop into the power feed on the plug that goes into the switch (ie used a bit of solder to jump the power source to the foggies positive pin) it lit up the fogs no worries so try jumping the pins to at least rule out the wiring side of things!

I think SDates check would be good to do. As mentioned the upsidown relay holder in the footwell. Slightly related. In my sedan, without power windows when i did the conversion i needed to plug in the relay there for it to work. If someone with fogs with oem wiring could take a pic of theres it might just help with the problem.
