Hello everyone, this is my first time on this forum and this also my first car, (2005 Lancer CH ES automatic).

I have already done some basic maintenance, oil + filter, front brake pads and I also had to replace the factory alternator.

I will need to replace the timing belt soon so if I run into issues I might ask here.

The mods I am considering are:
Vrx coils + shocks
Later model mags
Pod filter? Just for the noise!
And maybe a manual swap in the future

Any advice/opinions will be much appreciated.

A random thing but if you like to work on your car and blow time (and money (we gotta be honest with ourselves)) check your brake hoses as they're pretty cheap to replace and I had spongey brakes that easily could have been the hoses. Also check/replace engine mounts (makes quite the difference on the cheap as well (I used mackay and they were good)), and also bushes/ball joints/tie rod ends.

But honestly my biggest piece of advice (after being rear ended so im very biased take with a heap of salt) is drive it into the ground, save up the money, only replace what is necessary, and then buy a car that is from the factory already got everything that you want.

Thanks for the reply,

the brake pedal on my car has quite a bit of movement before the brakes start working compared to other modern cars i have driven (2011 forester, ba falcon, 2011 mazda 2) not sure what could cause that.

All the bushes and engine mounts seem decent as the car was owned by a family member who took it in for service regularly.

As for replacing the car, when the alternator failed i really wanted an 4g69 manual Lancer or a 6 cylinder car but I have not got a job yet so don't have the money.

One good thing about modding this car is if it gets into an accident i could transfer the parts onto another Lancer and not waste all the money spent on this one.
