Fuel Filter Replacement

Sup guys gonna give you a guide on replacing this little s***

Tools I used:
19mm Spanner
14mm Spanner
8mm Spanner
Flat head screwdriver

First thing you gotta do it release the fuel pressure, so first disconnect the negative battery terminal (safety precaution) then go inside your car and lift the rear seat pulling the two tabs. Pull the carpet back behind the drivers door and unclip electrical connection (this disconnects the fuel pump)

Reconnect the neg terminal on the battery, then start the car and it will stall itself, this will release pressure in the fuel system.
Disconnect the battery and reconnect the electrical connection to the fuel pump and put the rear seat back and everything the way it was, now its to to replace the filter

Heres the little sucker

Firstly remember your dealing with fuel here so be careful, and put a small container under the filter, cause fuel WILL SPILL. Another tip is to remove your fuel cap to release pressure in the lines so not much fuel is lost during the replacement.

The first thing you have to loosen is the flare nut on the underside of the fuel filter and remove the steel line connection. The way i removed it was attaching a 19mm spanner to the black nut on the filter (to prevent the filter rotating) and attaching the 14mm spanner to the flare nut. Hold the 19mm spanner so that the filter doesnt move the full the 14mm spanner CLOCKWISE if your loosing from the top (not underside), with draw the conenction from the filter and put it aside.

Next bolt you have to remvoe is the top banjo bolt, which requires a 19mm spanner or 19mm socket, your choice, i actually had to use my electrical impact wrench cause my banjo bolt was too damn tight and every time i tride to loose it the whole filter bracket would rotate.

Next loosen the small bolt that keeps the filter in place (8mm spanner)

Push the filter from the top so that it comes out from the bottom, put in your next filter, and tighter that small bolt and reattach the new banjo bolt (with the new washers) and finally reattach the flare nut on the underside. I actually ahd to get udner that car to reatatch mine cause i couldnt seem to be finding the thread from the top.

Reconnect your negative battery terminal once you've cleaned away the spilt fuel and start her up, done

One final thing, the flat head screw driver was used to remove a section of my CAI to have better access

you'll need the direct image link name.

Right-Click on the image, and click "open image/open source" or similar which should open the image by itself.
Then you need that url for it to work

You should be using flare nut spanner on the 14mm. Will be much easier to undo and lessen the risk of rounding the flare nut which if you round you will need to cut and reflare or change the whole hard line.
A ring spanner on the top banjo bolt would be a good idea too.

Otherwise good write up.

oh the fuel filter, the fuel filter -.-

I removed the fuel air surge tank thing (the black blob above the fuel filter), to gain better access, but each to their own.

also I didnt worry bout disconnecting power to the pump, just undid the battery terminal, and opened up the fuel cap.. but what you have written is a good safety precaution, especially to those doing it for the first time.

and another safety precaution DO NOT HAVE A CIGERETTE WHILE PERFORMING THE CHANGE!!! It will light up your day... and your car... and possibly you...

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but where exactly did you get the new filter? And how much if possible? Thanks mate :)

Price wise, theyre between $60-180, depending on where you find them and brand

There's a replacement Ryco fuel filter (z441 or something) for like $30 which apparently replaces the $50ish ryco z424 filter which is what lancers are supposed to use. I'm attempting to use it soon, will see how it goes.
