Drivers Switch Panel Removal

Basically in our CJ's there are some blank switches next to the driver betwen the wheel and the door and my god don't we all just want to use them for our lights and other crap!

To do this you'll need basically 1x PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWDRIVER (Small length to medium length is good).

Start over in the glovebox just to make it easier. JUst squeeze so the tabs on the sides release and then pop off the tube strut that lowers it. Bend down and pull away.

Just near where the strut attached, there is a screw. Remove this to pull off the side black piece of the dash, which covers the screw for the long plastic dashpiece.

**This gets removed just to ensure you dont scratch it taking off the under-dash area around the wheel.
Unscrew the screw from the plastic piece (silver colour plastic in mine)

There are plastic clips holding the plastic piece in, so slowly wedge it from left to right outward to pull them out. BE CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THEM!

Now if you put those parts aside, the fun begins...naht.

The under-steering dash is held up by clips and 2x phillips head screws.
Screws can be found left and right corners about level with bonnet release.

Gently begin to pull out from somewhere, try your luck...I started by popping some of the bottom clips and then slowly moving up before the dash was hanging down.

The switch panel has wires to the backs of the blanks FYI. Just unclip all wires and use the phillips head to unscrew 3x screws on the white plastic bracket which attaches them to the dash's behind. (this makes it easier to wedge them out with a small flat object-I used a small flathead and lifted the side of a tab to pop it out)

Now, If you're like me and want a sort of factory look I got black plastic rocker switches at Autobarn for about $6. I used an 11mm drill bit to get a hole big enough to fit my file into before shaping a hole for the rocker to clip into.

To reassemble, slowly put piece by piece back making sure not to damage clips, or in the case of under the wheel have clips not going in.

Will post photos when I take the dash apart next (sometime mid-June 2013).
