Welcome all to Catchy Tuts! On the very first episode of this new show we teach you all how to change your trusty cluster lights in your lovely Mitsubishi Lancer CG/CH's! (Terms & Conditions apply)
It's actually rather simple was my first attempt at changing clusters ever or removing parts of the dash so I think I did alright.
Tools required:
Screw Driver
New "Neo Wedge" Wide Angle T5/T10 LED's (Please check how many you need and what type before purchase)
Hands
Self
Two Cookies and a Cold drink (Only use when instructed!)
Rightio may as well start off with the speedo clusters and how to get to them.
1. First unscrew the two screws located on the shroud.
2.Then remove the shroud by simply pulling it out, can use a bit of force as all these parts are in nice and tight
3.Next unscrew all the screws attaching the speedo to the rest of the inner dash and unclip the glass covering off of the gauge front as it makes it much easier to remove the unit then.
4.Now take out the unit and don't be afraid to fiddle and use a bit of force to get it out as it is a bit awkward in order to do so! Also don't forget to unplug the plugs connected to the back of the unit and make sure to grab the plastic not the wires of the plug!
5.Unscrew the screws holding in the back covering of the unit and then take the cover off. Now you can actually get to the clusters (the blue things in the picture) out and replace with new ones, to do so simple twist and pull out and do reverse to put back in . I am not quite sure but I believe that these clusters are T10's so get Neo Wedge WIDE ANGLE T10's of your colour choice. (wide angle because otherwise the lighting isn't spread out and you get bright spots which looks shiet!)
6. Simply plug the wires back into the back of the unit and test to see if new clusters work, if they do simply place everything back in same way you took out That was a cluster replacement well done! Grab a cookie and come back ready to start on the air con etc... clusters.
Air Con etc. Clusters! (I use a manual air con control so if you have auto air con than it may be slightly different)
1. Pull the dials off of the controls.
2. Unscrew the screws that were underneath the dials and also remove you head unit before the next step to make it much easier.
3.Now use slight force to remove the dash facing. You do have to use a bit of force due to the style of clips that hold it in place.
4.Next step unscrew the screws holding the clear cover over the top of the controls panel and then pull out the circuit board after unplugging the plugs connected to the circuit board.
5.Simply locate the clusters and twist and pull to remove. Then replace with new ones! Simple as that! Now plug in the back plug and test to see if works! Now place everything back in! Now once again if I am not mistaken I believe these are T5 clusters so buy once again Neo Wedge WIDE ANGLE T5 bulbs of your colour choice!
That was it guys! Well done, you can now go grab a nice cold drink and another cookie in your success with changing the clusters in your car.
On the next episode of Catchy Tuts, we change the number plate lights and dome lights!
