2013 CJ - No start issue

Have just jumped in the car and suddenly no start.......fuses good, relay clicks and seems operational, battery charged, got spark, next to test is fuel? If so how? Don’t have a gauge kit to test fuel rail for pressure.......is there a way to loosen a connection somewhere and see if fuel comes out?

Hey mate - some basics to check first:

why did it need to be jump started?

is the car cranking? Or is nothing happening when you turn the key?

Hahaha.....yeah no need for jump start.....it is cranking. I want to test fuel but don’t know how.......have pulled inspection hatch off to get to the pump, listened but can’t hear anything coming from pump when ignition is turned on, tested power to the pump. I get a reading of 3.6v when the ignition is turned on....is this normal? Can I pull an injector off or some other way to see if fuel is being pumped?

Right I’m with you now. 3.6volts is a ecu reference voltage, not a supply.

a really common problem with the CJ generation is the fuel pump relay - theyre known to fail as early as 50,000kms. If you havent already, go grab yourself a new relay from Mitsubishi - or you can even try swapping around the headlight relay with the fuel pump one.

to test fuel pressure, youd need to take the supply line off the fuel rail or fuel pump.

taking an injector off wont work in this case for a number of reasons.

Thanks for the idea, changed each of the two green relays for the black headlight one, on the second relay the car sounded a bit different so I kept at it and she started.......hooray relay problem! Nope..........changed all the relays back and car still starts...WTF??????.........wondering if it may have been bad fuel?? Or maybe a sign something is on its way out??? anyway, car is running and driving without issue at the moment.

Grab yourself a new relay mate! They can be brought back to life by being shaken or rattled, but eventually will fail again. Could be in 1km or 10,000kms. Just sucks to be stuck somewhere for a $30 relay haha

gald it was an easy fix

Ok, just rang super cheap and they quoted me like $12 for a new relay........photo below shows the black headlight relay and the position I swapped it to that seemed to get the car to start....I did also try the black relay in the green slot diagonally to the left of the one in the picture.
Like you said it could have been me pulling them out and mixing them around that got it working again..............problem is I don’t actually know which relay is the fuel pump relay? Is it the green one I am showing in the photo? Chick at super cheap said the replacement one is grey, 20a??E3AD241A-E403-4F4D-8719-62E686C91ECF.jpeg

You’ll have to read the flip side of the fusebox cover or your manuals to be 100% sure. I haven’t touched one in a little while .

I will recommend that you get a mitsubishi one, even if theyre more expensive. They’ve updated the part serveral times since the CJ first came out to fix the problem.

Can’t find anything in the manual that helps me...........

Relays
H = the relay I’m pointing to in the picture (I think this is fuel pump relay??)
E = diagonal left in the picture
G = Black headlamp relay in the picture
K = ??
N = ??
All green relays are the same part number.

I’ve ordered 2 relays from Mitsubishi and am thinking I’ll replace H & E as I played around with both to get the car going again.....thoughts?

The CJ Workshop Manual is floating around the internet, maybe try downloading it and seeing if it has any more detailed info?
