the sidewall number is a % of the width of the tyre...

Yup, its not a measurement of mm. Its a ratio between the section height and width expressed as a %

eg. a 40 profile tire with 205mm width will have a section height of 82mm

just proved that theroy wrong my lancer as 205/45 with a wall height of 48mm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_code#Tire_geometry

All well and good but you try and tell me that if my tire is 205 then 45% of that would be around 90 mm I don't have 90 mm walls. What am I missing

45~ on each side

EDIT: It is in relation to total dia. So total dia would be 16" + 205x0.45

Any of sidewall height (or more correctly termed 'Section Height') is the calculation of the radial distance between where the bead of the tyre sits on the wheel rim to the outer most point at the centre line of the tread. Any calculation should take these small additional distances into account, or confusion reigns!

I dont know if you wish to use this as an opinion thread as well, rather than starting a new thread, but gold or green? On a white mirage

i was considering gold for my mirage, however those rims actually appear as a dark gold and not a "rich" gold as the pic shows.

i do believe the wheels above are actual genuine BBS LM's, the XXR wheels are copies of them

okay guys, need a bit of help again...

TOPIC: Wheel Nuts :S
okay well ive been trying to find wheel nuts that suit my rims and i cant seem to find any that fit in the special hole on the wheel...
i know im after 12 x 1.5 in the 60º (acorn seat nut) but the width of the actual nut is my problem...
i measured my wheel and i have about 20mm - 21mm to work with and Res suggested internal hex nuts (or barrel nuts)

so that brings me to the point of where can i get them?
or do i just look at something like this on ebay?

Bingo.

Or just goto a wheel shop, they usually have some lying around. My bro picked up 20 for $2 each.

tron! very sharp mate.

might try the wheel shop options cause not really going to wait for shipping from the States.

ok guys, gonna use this thread for my own question...

My plan set in cement atm is to buy a CJ... I know that the CJ has 5x114.5 bolt pattern. Now the question in, can I buy wheels to suit say a silvia or skyline with 5x114, will they fit properly? Also, that being said, What offsets give what result... like what will get me flush on x8 wheels or whats going to poke with x8... FYI currently lining up a White CJ... with some pretty radical wheels to suit :)

Aftermarket Wheels - Vibration

Okay guys,

didnt want to be making this thread this soon but heres my problem.

Did my first highway session today after I have new aftermarket wheels on my car and I got to about 75km/h and I was getting really strong vibrations throughout my car...

So I got a bit worried and asked a bloke at lights to watch my wheels as I drove along and he said that both my back wheels wobble... which didnt increase my confidence at all...

so what do I do from here?

take off all wheels and put them back on or is it a bigger problem?

Thanks guys

Re: Aftermarket Wheels - Vibration

take them back i guess, maybe try tighteneing the nuts up yourself they may be loose, if nuts arnt loose take them back

Re: Aftermarket Wheels - Vibration

First thing would be check if the wheel nuts are done up all the way when it is sitting on the ground with weight of the car on it.
If they're done up all the way, have you got hub rings for the wheels?
A wheel balance and alignment will also help if the first two don't.

Re: Aftermarket Wheels - Vibration

Take them to a tyre place and see if theyre properly round

Re: Aftermarket Wheels - Vibration

well tomorrow i will take em off and put em back on to check if I have hub rings on (pretty sure i do)

then if that seems all fine and the vibrations are still there then I will go to a tyre place and see what they have to say...

thanks for the quick replies guys!

i think they are screws and yes if they are still there and fouling on the wheel remove them
that could well be what is the problem
