Just curious on your views on the paint & interior protection packages that are sold as extras for new cars. Personally I think it's a waste of money but I have a friend thats thinking seriously about buying a new lancer & was asking me about it so thought i'd post up to find out what you all reckon or what your experiences have been with it.
Cheers for any advise.

i reckon its a load of BS my thoughts & from what my mate that detials cars say is its a "better" brand of polish but he dosent work for a car dealer so he isnt 100% sure

Just sounds like a money making gimmick.

Cars have lasted a good 15 years without any real noticeable paint defects, so why are they bothering with it now? They using different paint? Or do they want the paint on the car to last for 30 years? Stupid idea, especially with the proposed law to remove old cars from the road.

Don't do it (well, tell your buddy not to do it).

Meh CJs have thin paint, your main worry is going to be stopping stone chips, for which it is worth getting a bonnet gaurd and front mudflaps (if its a VRX). I wouldn't wate my money on paint protection, just make sure you apply a good wax atleast twice a year.

You can invest in good wax, but better yet, polymer polish... its harder than wax which weathers.. and polymer fills light swirls filling them to look close to glass again...

It's just a money making scheme all they do is polish the car with some "agent" that comes off after the first wash.

My old man got a new pajero and they tried selling him all that stuff. Anyway if your mate wants the protection stuff go to a window tinter as they are over half the price if not more..

I cant figure it out if its the paint thats *poo* or the clear or the protection they put on but I do notice on the roads alot more cars have clear coats coming off and most of the cars are less then 10 yrs old or younger.

Personally I don't see the point in it, and I'd say it's just a way for them to make more money. Chances are they don't do anything that you couldn't do yourself.

As I thought, thanks for your input folks :)

It's a crock of *poo*.

Even the salesman agreed with me when I bought my car. "Just tell the *mum* you know someone who can do it cheaper and she'll leave you alone".

You're essentially paying someone anywhere between $500-$3000 to scotch guard the fabric and polish/wax the paint.
