Lancer CH Taillight Install/Removal

Greetings all,

So I've bought this lancer like 2 months ago and thought i'd sign up to Auslancer! Mega mega fresh to this forum/lancer owner/writing tuts scene, always wanted to do all of the above, so what better way to show up on this than to write a tut! :lolno:

(Never done this so bare with me!) *Constructive Criticism always welcome!

Step 1:

Open your trunk and locate 2 phillips screws that are on either side of the tail light, yes smartass unscrew them.

Step 2:

Go ahead and unscrew a black screw inside of the trunk where the carpeting is. It has a little grip that you can do it with your fingers, and take it out.

Step 3:

Now once you've unscrew the 2 screws on the side of the tail light, gently but with some force remove the taillight from
your lancer, and pull it until you can see the wiring.

Step 4:

When you've pulled the taillight out, press the black connector tab and pull it out .
And it should like something like this.

... Pull it and in the same manner connect your new taillight!

Step 5:

!IMPORTANT!

Before you go and screw back your new taillight go turn on the car and get someone to make sure that BOTH Brake, Indicator and Reverse lights do light up!

If it does NOT light up, then you might ..
1. Have a busted bulb if it's second hand. Which then you proceed to go buy a new one and chuck it inside (Sorry I didn't post pics for this but you simply
turn the inside of where the bulb is connected to, unscrew the old one, screw the new one in and you're done)
2. You might have not connected it in until the connectors make a 'click' noise.
So disconnect and reconnect them in and BAM!

Other than that it should be all sweet!

Step 6:

Once its all systems go, then chuck it back in while aligning the gromit fitting in the car and gently push it in until you it requires some force to pull the taillight out. This is how you know you've installed it correctly.

Step 7:

Screw it your new taillights and put the black screw back in the carpeting from the inside of the trunk and NOW do the same for the other side

Now repeat from Step 1 and do as above on opposite side!

Once you've finished both sides...

Tilt your head 45 degrees, smirk and nod approvingly like a BAWWWSSS !

DONE!

Pls comment and all feedback welcome!

Cheers,

Lando

I have a busted LHS brake bulb even though one of the parkers (using the same brake bulb) is fine. :(

I think these models have two tail parker bulbs each, so a total of four. For each side, the outer one uses the brake bulb whist the inner parker uses a seperate bulb.

Anyways....

To remove the brake globe (21/5W), does the entire tail light need to be removed?

And is the connecting mechanism (unscrew connector with bulb attached then unscrew bulb) similar to those of the front parker globes (but obviously bit bigger)? :?

Thanks.

You have to take off the whole light assembly, which is just two screws and two clip things. They are a wedge bulb FYI, the altezzas use generic screw in. But the rears are a T15 I think... The outer bulb is dual filament. I did something cool, I tapped into the 3rd wire for the outer bulb, and got another two dual filament plugs, so both my bulbs are park/brake lights now.

Where can you get the sockets/plugs/connectors to put different bulbs in, and what do the sellers call them? Thinking of making my tail/brake bulbs brake only (and keep the existing separate tail lights as well), any thoughts?

Mit72, also maybe check if the bulb is installed properly. I has one tail/brake bulb working only as brake, and not as tail. More recently, it stopped working completely, then i realised it was crooked, just had to push it in and it works properly now.

Yeah will check when I remove the tail light. It seems a bit odd for the parker light to work whilst the brake light doesn't and they both use the same bulb...

..well i guess they have two filaments and the brake one is busted? :?

Hmmmmm it makes sense with the brake filament being 21W and the parker only 5W.

I already bought the bulb but just don't have the time or motivation to change it.

Haha only 3 months since I changed the LHS dual filament globe, now the parker light of the same globe doesnt work but the brake does.

Pulled the light out and to find that the globe wasn't in fully. Must've some how gotten loose. All Solved!!

Yeah, I don't really like the idea of wedge bulbs so much anymore, bayonet can't wiggle loose so easily. Meanwhile, My RHS brake light has stopped working, bulb looks okay though and isn't loose. I'll have to tect the eonnections, I'm due for a led swap I think.

the name of the thread could be changed to CG/CH Taillight install/removal as the cg lights are the same setup.

anyone know where to get the plastic clips from the gromit fittings from? i recently got vrx tail lights and they dont have them and my old ones dont come off unless i brake them. i was thinking supercheap auto or some place like that.

Any wreckers would have them, just go in, look for a CH wreck, pull them off. Tbh I doubt they'd even charge for them as they're tiny, and not really worth anything to them. Most wreckers have a minimum cost for parts too which tends to be over $10 and I can't see them charging that much for tiny plastic clips

SCA, Autobarn and Repco have similar grommets but eBay is your best bet
