Lancer boot lock rod "retainer" replacement ?

I bought this car with this missing retainer piece that holds the rod to the lock cylinder, so I have never seen it in person. As of now the rod is flopping around freely, but I can open the boot from pull release. Any ideas on where to get this piece? Tried look up the genuine parts number (MR286178), but it comes whole with the lock assembly which, is too expensive, even the used one.

That is found on every lock on the car. Very common in all jap cars of the age. A friend broke his, and was in the some position as you - the cheapest and easiest option was to go to a pick and pull and grab 10 from random cars.

Ask at supercheap or bursons or repco, they may have little packets of them
