Do I have to support the engine/trans if I take the subframe out?

Hi everyone,

This weekend I am replacing a broken front engine mount on my CH. I found a video on YouTube and the guy takes the subframe out without supporting the engine/trans. Obviously this will save me alot of time and effort.

Is it OK to do this or bad for the other mounts?

Hey mate, the front mount is actually just a roll stopper, so it doesnt bear any weight, just holds the motor in place. There is no reason to support the engine or trans when replacing the front or rear roll stoppers.

Cheers

Thanks for your reply!

The factory workshop manual gives instructions to take the battery yet tray and airbox inlet out for access from the top. However it looks much faster/easier to drop the brace it's mounted on and access it that way - it sits atop a brace.

Just not certain which way to attack it! Any advice?

Yeah I’ve changed a few and had that lower brace out plenty of times. Just remove the undertray, release the mount bolt and nut, then the 3 bolts for the brace. The brace will now come out with the mount attached by two more bolts. Remove those and viola
