CE mirage with td04 turbo

Hi everyone, first post here. I recently bought a CE mirage hatch back and I have a written off Subaru liberty lying around. I was wondering if it would be worth turbo charging the mirage with the td04 turbo from the liberty and if it's possible to use the top mount intercooler in a front mount set up for the mirage. Reckon it would be worth it? Or should I just go for a bigger single scroll turbo? Cheers.

Btw this is my first car that I've decided to mod.

Really depends what you want out of your car
The majority of people in this group will you not to waste your time with the little 4g15 as they are utter garbage and just go a 4g93 ( the 1.8l version that came in the lancers)
But if your adement on turboing the 1.5 go for it
I did and it’s a bloody weapon
Mines using a stock sr20 turbo (a t25) running 13 psi and making 155hp and has been for over a year now

For the intercooler I used a evo6 cooler and it more or less fits behind the bumper nicely

Have a geez around the forums there is a *poo* tonne of info on this subject

does anyone make an off the self turbo manifold for the 4g15?

I think Kinugawa does them as cast units, at least im pretty sure i remember seeing them when i got my g93 manifold.

Pretty sure those cast units are for the pre ce 4g15.

Rpw manifolds off the shelf are about 500-600$

You should still be able to use them, port sizing is the same but the outlet is just on the opposite side

I just want a bit more power from the car and to make it a bit more fun to drive, and to learn as much as I can about turbo charging and d.i.y. in general. Plus I have the turbo already so it's free.
There's no chance of doing an engine upgrade to the g93, as I'm heading back to uni in Feb and will be broke :/ Haha.
I'm also planning to upgrade the brakes and add coilovers.

Honestly if money is tight and your wanting more power swap the g93 into

I probably put about 4-5k into mine with the turbo kit
A g93 will literally cost you 500$ and a weekend

The custom intercooler piping from that top mount plus a custom exhaust will be more expensive than a g93 swap. Not to mention, ecu tuning, injectors, turbo lines etc etc

Shiiiiiiiet, i paid $400 for a wrecked CE MR
I've also paid $300 for a custom dump pipe for the turbo to the front pipe (not even to the cat).

Engine swap can be done (and cleared by the RTA) for next to nothing

Sorry, maybe broke wasn't the right word to use, roughly my budget will be 5k to spend on my car this year. The engine swap does sound like a great idea, but I don't have a hoist or any friends that are into cars that would help.
I guess I should add in as well that I must drive a boosted car, it's a necessity of life for me.

You can hire engine cranes for hourly/daily rates. I'd suggest doing that to get the 1.8L out one day, and then hire it again for 1 more day to take the 1,5 out and drop the 1.8 in. Once it's in it's just a matter of bolting and plugging things back together. You can do it with no mates with enough effort or even mates who dont know anything, just tell them what to hold haha. Once the 1.8 is in you have a lot more options for gear to get it boosted. Manifolds are off the shelf, gaskets off the shelf, injectors off the shelf, ecu tune is readily available etc. All in all you'd spend over 5k easy to boost the 1.5L and between 3-5k to boost the 1.8L unless youre doing you r own custom fab work. Plus you'll go faster too

Thanks for the info Rigby, I'll keep you guys posted on what I decide to go with but right now it's looking like the 4g93 setup.
Cheers

Also another thing to note is that the Liberty TD04 uses a different flange to other TD series turbos so an off the shelf manifold may not work.

If your budget is 5k you can buy many turbo charged cars for that much.

If you want some real fun, but a turbo diesel lol

Stupid question: Is a proton 4g15 any different to a CE 4g15? Plenty of 4g15 turbo manifolds out there for protons.
