Colt Version R Gearbox Compatibility (F5MGB)

So... i was wondering...

Since the CVR uses a 4G15(T), and there is a variant of the 4G15 with F5M41 on CEs, does that mean that the manual GB from the CVR will fit CEs too?

But the GB code for the CVR isnt't F5M41, but F5MGB. I think its made by Getrag?

Anyway i compared that to the gear ratios of my CE's 1.8 GB.... 1st to 4th is ever slightly longer on the CVR GB, but 5th is slightly shorter, along with a shorter FD.

So even if it does fit, a waste of $ then?

Depends.

I am really interested in this GB coz i am likely gg turbo, and my friend's CVR was a nippy little road rocket. And this GB has a very good choice of LSDS from Quaife, Torsen and Wavetrac. Yums.

Just wondering if anyone ever tried to put this in their CE?

From what I understand though the Colt turbo engine is a 4G15 it is fairly different to the normal 4G15 you find in SOHC Mirages etc with few parts being interchangeable.
Longer ratios don't sound appealing though

Wholly agree. but i am after the plethora of ATB style LSD choices. And if i turbo it.... mmm hmmmm.

or i could dump a plate type LSD into an F5M42 from a Mivec RS or something but i hate those...

The wavetrac LSD is available for the normal 4G15 transmissions too from the Mirage so why would you want to swap transmission to run the wavetrac?

To my knowledge Eclipse and Evo III AWD front LSD does fit.
Search www.ftoaustralia.com as some people have used them and the transmission is the same as the Mirage (same series, different FD and ratios).
You may require FTO drive shafts

yea i been on the FTO forums poking apparently there's a Wavetrac LSD i can use with the FTO gearbox F5M42-2. Ratios r abit shorter than my current GB surprisingly but yes will need the 27 spline driveshafts. Small issue actually.

Dude the only guy replying to my threads is you. Whole place seems to be dead lol.

Just FYI for anyone thats interested.

The F5MGB gearbox swap idea is no longer feasible.

Looking at pictures online of both F5MGB and F5M42 bell housings side by side (or at least, what i am led to assume are) they don't seem to match up.

Even if they did......

The Colt Version R uses equal length driveshafts which of coz, makes use of an intermediate shaft and we have nowwhere to hang that bloody support bracket.

Shame.

Also shame about the equal length driveshaft thingy. All front wheel drive cars shouldnt be denied of ELDS.

That's right, changing driveshafts isn't too big an issue.
I am sure you don't need the FTO transmission though, you could fit the same LSD unit that goes into the FTO transmission but into your one + change the driveshafts.

I agree all FWD cars should have equal length driveshafts and a lot of Mitsubishis do actually.
The bracket fits onto the engine block and there is a possibility the CM5A with the 4G93 had ELDS at the front so perhaps look into that to see if you can use some parts to make it all work

FTO transmission has got shorter ratios than what i have i think. So easier to just find 1 and swap.

Looking at my copy of ASA it does seem that way but i do not see any carrier bracket that holds the intermediate shaft in place.

For comparison if i look up the USA version of ASA, in particular the 2006 Lancer Ralliart (with the 4G69), the bracket does show up with the driveshaft.

In retrospect I don't think AWD cars have intermediary shafts as they have the transfer box which basically acts like one to get equal length driveshafts.

If shorter ratios is what you want then the CJ4a (1.6 MIVEC transmission) is the best

Yeah but issit just the different splined driveshafts that i only have to swap?

Where i am from, where cars are expensive as hell (we pay a huge sum of money to the government blood suckers every 10 years to keep them on the road for the nxt 10) nobody bothers to keep Mitsubishi Mirages and Lancers on the road(because rule sets with regards to modifications are excruciatingly stringent with dictator-like ridicule) so no funny turbo converts or engine swaps allowed.

For cars more than 10 years old, you are obligated to go for an MOT once a year.

If you are discovered with an illegal engine swap, you will be forced to scrap yr ride. If you are caught with your pants down for an illegal exhaust modification, they give you a ticket for SGD$500 which is equivalent to AUD$500 more or less, and if its the 2nd time, it may even go up to $1000 and they will force you to go for an MOT twice a year.

Of course anything there is not legal on your car, you have to make sure your car is compliant before your annual MOT or you will fail it.

As it is, there r only a tiny number of CA-CC Mirages left. As far as i know, mine is the 1 and only CE Mirage in the country. @ least for the last 11 years already.

So noone bothers to keep these cars as they are next to nothing compared to Hondas, with their vtec and all. So no knowledge with my fella owners to share, and parts availability are nada. I have to go up north to neighbouring Malaysia for parts which is quite honestly time consuming and quite a waste of money if i get it wrong, so u understand why i rather just get the box and ds and be done with it...

That really doesn't sound like a pleasant car ownership experience there.
You have tracks etc that you can use the cars on?

Across the border in Malaysia my friend. the nearest race track is Sepang International Circuit which is abt.... 350km away. They are building another one nearer to home but still in Malaysia but we won't see that till 2020. If there are no more delays.
