Paying thru the nose for genuine mitsubishi parts?

Fortunately i rarely prop up the bar at the local Mitsubishi dealer to get genuine parts as the old girl has never given me any serious problems over the last 13 years.

When i do go to the counter and inquire on a price for a part i always get told prices that make me think i need to take out a mortgage on the house just to replace a few part's, seriously, i was told by a Mitsubishi dealer the reason that the parts for older mitsubishi's are so expensive is that when the stock levels get down on the older models in the Australian main warehouse, that they put up the prices to stop the average Joe Blow from buying them so as to save them for trade /dealers/panel shops in case they need them to ensure supply....hmmmmmm i thought........... well i can safley say I guess they are not bending over backwards in helping enthusiasts trying to keep their cars in pristine condition, i think its more of a case that we are bending over forward
My way of thinking was that once a vehicle hits the magic 10 yr old mark, that the prices would be reduced so as to clear old stock as 10 years is all they guarantee and are required by legislation to stock parts for.

I know most dealer profits are made after the sale with so called "fitted accessories" / servicing / protection packages/ safety checks and my pet hate overpriced "Genuine spare parts"................. but i tend to draw the line as some prices are just ridiculous to say the least........... so now the story begins!

I found a site on the net that a friend told me about (honestly i thought he was having me on) that sells genuine parts for most popular manufactures in the world.
  1. All i had to do was enter your vin number and it comes up with all the details on your car including actual manufacture date/parts numbers/any accessories etc etc, the thing is it only shows the parts/part numbers of all parts used only in the manufacture of your car, not some other interchangeable parts from similar models, so no more mistakes when part's ordering.
  2. Select AUS in world pricing
  3. So when you click on the sub category of the parts you need require, it comes up with a detailed explosive pic of the items such as complete front suspension, doors assembly's, etc.
  4. All you do is click on the parts you need, up comes the price in aussie dollars, enter shipping info and it tells you a very competitive express shipping price to aust using DHL or Fedex.
  5. Best thing about it is that all the parts they supply are genuine manufactures parts, so for mitsubishi (genuine parts still sealed in mitsi bags/boxes)
  6. most of the parts are a small fraction of what we pay here (way way better than mates rates/trade), similar i suppose to what the Japanese market pays for their parts.
To give you an idea of savings, I ordered the following genuine parts:
  • Front Strut Bump stop and boot cover 2 x $11.33 each (mitsubishi price $70.95 each)
  • Front suspension bottom coil pad $5.87 each (mitsubishi price $29.60 each)
  • Front strut top plate slipper bearing $7.52 each (mitsubishi price $61.70)each
>>>>Total Cost of parts at Mitsubishi dealer: $324.50 AUS(pick up no postage) shipping extra
>>>>Total Cost of parts at Overseas Mitsubishi dealer: $49.44 AUS plus $22.88 Expess shipping to Australia.

Spot the difference :sunglasses: so who is screwing who at these prices, hmmmmmm.

Total Express shipping to Australia ($22.88 AUS Dollars) ..... even cheaper than aussie post.

I ordered my parts from the company on Monday afternoon, Tues morn it was packed up and shipped out, Wednesday it arrived in Singapore, Thurs it arrived in Brisbane, and i received my order today (Friday) at midday, I WAS GOBSMACKED WITH THEIR EFFICIENCY as total distant travelled was 10,436 klms. I can't even get a bloody parcel delivered from Brisabane to Ipswich in 4 days !!! and that's a distance of 35klms, go figure?

If you need any more info or help just PM me.

I'm so glad you posted this!! Had such a problem trying to even get in contact with local & non-local dealers for recalls, parts and general information.. Being put on hold and transfered around seems to be common practice

No worries, i know that part of the reason for dealer pricing is to get you to buy a new car every 5-8 yrs as the parts/servicing just keep getting dearer and dearer, the other reason is just simply greed along the supply chain, what they don't seem to care about is the enthusiasts who actually enjoy their cars and are simply trying to keep their cars running in pristine condition, we are only a small % of their customers, you would think that because we are such a small minority that they might be willing to help us out a bit being loyal to the brand, but sadly that's not how the world works, all manufacturers are the same, i am not singling out Mitsubishi as a stand alone.

If you need any more info or help just PM me.

Does the particular site you mention begin with A and sound like baby's first rhyme?

No not really, i'll pm you ! , just trying to keep this for use with this forum members only.

No worries, all done check your inboxes :sunglasses: will pm you ! , just trying to keep these link's for use within this forum for members only, cheers.

Easier way to do it eould be to post the link in your ride thread which is members only and then get the link to that post and post it in here. Instead of having to pm everyone. I already know the site myself.

I thought of that, but i don't think i have set up a ride thread yet that i can find, don't know why i haven't, just never got around to it i guess.

Try this for size...!
Had to get as new fuel pump for my 92 Primera & it was going to cost &1,000 NZD for a Nissan one.
I managed to get a aftermarket one for a hundred.

$1000 for a fuel pump from Nissan............hmmmm..............I see a Genuine factory Nissan one on ebay for $211

And after market ones like you said you bought for around $80 - $100, do you think that someone in the supply chain could possibly be doing "just a little" markup on the parts

Just got my first shipment in! Only annoyance is that the two metal gaskets I got are bent out of shape from postage.. nothing a phone book can't flatten out however - happy days otherwise.

The $1000 quote was from a Nissan dealership. The cheap one was new from a Nissan wreckers.

Hey Wagonmaster, I'm interested in the link to the site too please.
I'm sick of going to the dealer and then crying when I get back to the car after ordering the OEM parts I need from them at their exponential prices.
TIA
