Brake Upgrade Information

Anyone know how big the Satria booster and MC is in comparison to the stock CE one? Gonna do my rears soon and don't wanna pay $150 for an Evo/FTO one if the Satria one will do the same job :)

So the non GTI/m21 BMC is the same size as the stock CE one. Anyone know if the 1 1/16" from an Evo 6 would fit?

What braided lines do people run with a magna twin pot front caliper? Read somewhere in this thread about the issues with length and the solutions HEL Came up with but I seem to remember the calipers in question were FTO items.

*edit: it was the 1st post hahah. The information doesn't distinguish between an FTO caliper or the magna caliper, just mentions the 276mm set up, so one would assume the HEL braided line to suit FTO should also fit the magna caliper?

First post has it at the bottom:
-If upgrading to braided brake lines, ADR approved lines are recommended. This is a quote from HEL UK: From this we know that if 276mm brakes are on the front, FTO braided lines will be most suitable, as UK Mirage/lancer/Colt owners have run into problems with Evo fittings. This is due to hose length. FTO lines closest match stock Lancer/Mirage line length

I'm running FTO braided lines, but i do have the full FTO hubs/calipers. Shouldnt be an issue otherwise really, unless you want to run the longer Evo lines

Ha I went and found that then edited while you were typing :p

I guess the main question is, will the banjo bolt fitting on the HEL FTO braided line fit either caliper?

If you remind me tomorrow, i'll get you a picture of my FTO caliper with FTO lines. Not 100% on how different the FTO and Magna calipers are, but id presume pretty similar.

Righto, another one for the auslancer collective mind: what caliper kit do I need for the magna twin pot? Is there a part number or some sort of identifying thing I can use to make sure I get the right kit?

Right done some digging and came up with a mitsubishi part number: MB699456.

Apparently this kit is the same as the kit for the TJ (3rd gen) AWD model sedan, which also uses 42.1mm caliper pistons.

Hopefully I'll have some luck with this info, as searching 'TS magna ABS caliper kit' and the like isn't finding me much else :p

I'd just go to an autoparts shop and say... Order me this, take my money!

Tried that, apparently there were 'multiple listings' and none of them made reference to being for single piston or twin piston, and they were circa $85 a kit!. Admittedly this was an Autobarn I went to, so probably not the finest pool of knowledge to be tapping into.

There is an ABS near me so I'll go there satdy and see what I can find out.

Thanks for that link spetz, I'll have a look this arvo.

Does anyone know if FTO rear calipers have brake shoes, or a part number for them?
I need to redo my brakes before motorkhana next month.

Ive got another question about these damn magna twin pots lol.

Does anyone know from first hand experience whether or not the magna brake line (soft line with correct fitting for the caliper) will mate up with the Lancer hard line?

Having issues getting the Lancer banjo fitting to work with the magna screw in fitting.

Im fairly sure the soft magna line with fit onto the hard line of the lancer

That looks like my next move, really should've grabbed them when I got the calipers but I didn't have the correct size spanner and was starting to round the nuts so just cut the soft line lol. That and I thought I read they didn't fit the hard line somewhere.

Least I should be able to grab lines from pick a part.

Use the factory lancer hard and soft lines.

Depending on the model you may need to shave down the banjo bolt.
Post a pic if your having trouble, this has been done many a time so its unlikely to be something major.

Does the banjo bolt only seal with the washers? I've cut the bolt itself down with a small cutting disc on the dremel, and tried to clean up the end as best I can but I nicked the banjo fitting on one side grinding the tail down (originally thought this was what needed to be done, not the bolt itself) so that may be leaking too - both banjo fittings have fresh fluid seeping into the caliper.

To make matters worse one of the piston seals squirted fluid out as I pushed the pistons in to have enough room for the new pads so I'm fairly sure that piston seal would be rooted.

Whole thing is a *poo* show at the moment :(

Unlucky dutch. If your in WA hit me up and i can give a hand.

I have had a search but cant find any concrete answers and hoped you guys would have an answer:

Has anybody completed a brake upgrade using the 3000gt/gto brakes? The 4 piston fronts and 2 rears? I know its kind of overkill but i did come across somewhere on a forum in europe that a couple of people had done it. Any thoughts or info on this guys?

Ok found some info on sizes for the USDM. Looking for caliper bolt spacing now...

*Slowly satisfying my curiosity. Looks like the park brake is cable and runs shoes inside the hats. Still trying to decipher the US market models to what we have here. A link i found interesting:
