Hey guys!

Ive been searching on the web and forum but havent been able to find the answer to my issue so my apologies if this has been posted and please excuse me for my poor search skills.

Basically, my car is a Manual transmission Lancer CE coupe has had 200,000kms on it and had timing belt changed about 40,000kms ago. I bought it second hand about 3 months ago and I noticed this issue the moment i took it off the guys hands.

During acceleration, the car has a half a second hesitation at about 1.8k RPM and from that point onward it accelerates quite smoothly. Even prior to 1.8K RPM its pretty smooth.
Essentially this only happens if my foot is on the throttle a tiny bit more, i.e when im overtaking. It doesnt happen or is alot less noticeable when Im pretty light on the throttle during acceleration past 1.8K RPM.

It doesnt happen on every occasion aswell and sometimes i try to trigger it but it wont happen haha. Seems to be when im on the 1K mark accelerating up, itll just skip/hesitate slightly for a 0.5-1 second on the way up and theres a very slight power cut which carries on as it passes this RPM.

There is also one other issue (now that i remember) which is that there is a rattle coming from the transmission area (I assume, as ive lifted up the bonnet to check it many times now) which goes away when the clutch is depressed and noticeable when the car is warm and the clutch pedal is NOT depressed. I cant hear it when the car is cold aswell. Ive read so many different people commenting on this issue but havent come to any conclusion yet as to how bad that really is. I typically stop with the clutch depressed and the car in first gear and braking so its not something i noticed still i started parking in the garage and the sound really radiated off the walls.

If anyone has experienced this issue or could tell me anything that i could do to investigate further, id appreciate it!

Not sure about the flat spot but the gearbox noise could be bearings in the gearbox. What happens when you engage the clutch is the box internals stop rotating thus quiet. Now the thing to try before new bearings would be new oil in the box, good quality stuff 75 w 90 would be my suggestion and see how you go.

Thanks Frosty7!

appreciate that heaps!

If anyone can help with that engine cutting out issue please let me know!

For your first problem try all the usual suspects first. Clean your throttle body and MAF thoroughly, scan for any error codes, check there's no vac leaks, make sure all your filters are clean (replace the fuel filter and pump if you don't know when they were last changed) and throw a tank of 98 through it

That's good advice but I had something similar and in the end I think it was a crook spark plug. I did everything Rigby said and was already running 98. I had a suspicion it was plugs so I cleaned and gapped them and it went away for a while but then came back. I run 1.1 mm gap which is max. suggested and I wondered if that was it. About 5000 km ago I bought new plugs and gapped them to 1.1 mm and so far so good. Could have equally been a dicky electrical connection to coil packs for example and fiddling with spark plugs might've fixed it. I'll never really know.
