Keeping Existing Filter Box and RA Snorkel Cool

Any Ideas? Going to try and get inlet air cooler, by insulating existing filter box and RA snorkel.
First problem! Limited clearances. Considering wrapping both with insulation but what
should I use? Form Shield aluminum foam backed insulation 9mm to reflect heat, or will this just
absorb heat, could be a bit bulky. Roadkill aluminum with 1mm thick black backing, thickness ideal.
Closed cell foam 5mm thick. Anything else?

Seems like a fruitless effort, for you and your driving style the snorkel would be more then enough to keep it all nice and cool. I highly doubt you would find a great deal of heat soak becoming an issue. The plastic may retain some warmth but it wouldn't be hot enough to negate the effect of the snorkel on the front.

pretty sure member "Tryg" made a cold air feed scoop for the factory intake. would probably be the best option if you feel you need to improve it somehow. i doubt wrapping will have any positive effect.

Irrespective of driving style I guess your right. While this would be a no cost item as I have a fair bit of left over gear
and maybe it would cut down sound, which I already have down to an acceptable level I think I'll leave this on the back burner.

Hi unclepaulie, Yes Tryg and others including myself have covered the absolute necessary alterations to the deck in front of the snorkel.
Not sure who did the bit about the scoop under the deck. I have altered the deck in my own way with series of holes, without the scoop and an RA snorkel
and find this sufficient without overkill for a NA 2ltr, the scoop could be a benefit with the slight ram effect?, simple enough.
May consider one when I run out of things to do. Extra opening in front deck is a must with RA snorkel as there is a loss due to
the loss of the extra, crazy hot air, original 25 holes under the original snorkel. Which by the way possibly contribute to that weird sound with the original snorkel.

Keep my wife happy if it cuts down that beautiful, in my car somewhat subdued roar when the revs hit the 3500- 4250 mark. Alternative feather foot acceleration with CVT.

PS less noise from both parties!!!
