1.5 engine mods

Am I correct in thinking that an Evo/GSR engine conversion or any turbo conversion will needed to be engineered for it to be road legal?
Depends on the state. I've done a GSR 1.8t into a CC coupe and had no issues. Just went to VicRoads and changed the engine number.

Just an update spoke to BMI today and the quoted $4000-$5000 for evo 6 delivered. They had a few evo 4 and 5. Only thing is I'll be after and auto as my wife will drive it for time to time and the guy said very rare to find auto evos. So trying to see what happens next

Evo 4-6 were all manuals, no auto.
Evo7 GTA was an auto, but who even knows what's involved in putting that in a CE.
CM5A GSR however did come in an auto, but good luck getting one. I've only ever seen 1 or 2 for sale in NZ.
But at least with a CM5A being a 4G93T you can put a regualar Aus spec 93 auto box on it. But in saying that, does anything need to be modified to make it work with a FWD auto box. You're sort of in uncharted territory here. I know with mine the clutch slave cylinder had to be slightly modified. Due to a small difference between the AWD and FWD boxes.

If it's auto you're after I really wouldn't go further with this. Unless you do an auto standard 4g93 and turbo that, I cant see an easier option

Yeah, there's really no point in doing this swap if you want an auto. A lot less headaches just to buy a factory turbo/auto car. Legnum or gallant are pretty inexpensive. Then there's also the evo 7.

If you want to run significantly more power through an na auto also factor in the price of a tranmission upgrade and rebuild as I can't see it lasting very long. And a rebuild will probably cost you a couple of grand!

Ok thanks guys for the heads up. Looks like this is where the dream ends for me as I can't see me doing the manual conversion as well as my wife can't drive it so she won't go along for the whole thing if it's gonna end up being a manual car in the end. Once again thanks to every one who took the time to post.

If youre still keen for turbo power, as NFG said. Maybe an auto Galant/Legnum or Evo7 GTA might be the way to go. I'd be more inclined to get a XR6 turbo with a 6 speed auto which are now dropping in price nicely too. At least with the XR6T the Mrs will look at it as more of a family car ;)

I reckon look for a 2.4L CH lancer, they're plummeted in price recently. Great up and go, more room too

Thanks Hugh ce have been looking at the ch and at the gallant. Found a gallant for 11 grand on Carsales but also looked at a wrx evo club 7 for the same price at a dealership. Waiting to hear back from the guy about the kms on the wrx and both are autos. What do you think is the better choice

Wrx evo 7 in auto? Really? I never knew haha.
Oh yeah Honda accord are also great.

Lol I thought the same but yep they sure did. I'm leaning more towards the wrx as with a few mods it will have a awesome kick.
