Pre-Conversion Engine Building

1.6 MIVEC is not very fast at all though.
If you want to stay NA, either a 4G69 or 6A12 are the way to go in my opinion.

@MOR31, I'm aware of the drama. Honestly don't think it'll be going turbo.

@Phantom460, using the 6A12 engines because there's an abundance of them where I am. Simple as that.

Why not 4g92 Mivec?

If you want to stay NA, the Mivec 1.6 would be my pick of the bunch.

I've only ever seen one in a registered car, If it were easy to obtain everyone would be doing it.
As far as I've seen, there's no shortage of them in NZ but getting it here maybe another issue.

Then there's cost vs reward ?

Yep. Jeff Hackett has done it into a mirage. Did it rather differently though

4g92m is slow
4g93T is suitable and best for your budget
6a12m is okay but u will wish u went 4g93T after a month
6a13TT is great and fits your budget but u gotta know some fancy tricks
6g7x so far cannot be done legally on road in aus.
4g69 is okay power but not well documented so.. lots of guess work
4g63T awesome power but on a 5k budget unlikely u could afford it

Can someone sticky this? Whenever someone posts "what are my engine options"
This should be posted straight under it.
With a bit of detailed fine tuning

6a12 is fast and the sound is awesome but after a year of driving it I want to go faster. RPW does cams for it but for the price i'd probably start again with a 4g93t or 4a63t.

My budgets non existant anymore. Got myself a couple loans since I originally started this post awhile back. Was reading someone put a 6g72 into a lancer on fb and thought I'd stir this old post and you blokes up hahaha.

6A12M for N/A daily
4G93T or 6A13TT for fun

That'd be my picks.

I bought a turbo car for a daily. If I had 5k lying around I don't think I'd bother with an NA swap these days. I'd spend the lot on turbo + boltons and probably save for an AWD conversion if I was going to buy another lancer.

What do you guys do to get your power to the ground in your mitsus?

Wiiiiide tyres, goooood tyres and an lsd. Pushin around the 300hp mark lsd is basically a must

There wasn't an LSD option with the CE tho was there? Is the FTO LSD an option?

Any of you blokes be willing to share your kWatw & torque figures? Interested in seeing what has been made.
