CC Lancer Performance Mods

Hi AUSLANCER,
This has probably been done TO DEATH, but..

My brother-in-L and I are going to fix up his late fathers old little 96 CC GLi coupe. Its already a 5spd 1.8i, but we're hoping to 'hot' it up a little and then probably sell it.
We're look at doing this to;
a. learn a bit more about whats involved for a project when we're finished and,
b. sell it to fund getting said project.
^ There is the motivation, its not because 'we want to go vrooming like teenies, its purely for learning.'

We're probably looking at doing a really comprehensive recondition, and put in some mods to it to make it a bit more fun.
Without doing an engine conversion, or an expensive turbo set up on a car that isnt worth a great deal ($), what should we do?

If you do suggest something, could you please mention approximately what the gains would be? (if you have an idea)

Thanks AL.

Read and read more through here. We have a moderately decent amount of information on AL for CC gen lancers, but you'll need to pick the brains of Rigby or Mikey (EVL2LT-whatever it is). As with most older engines, you wont be able to squeeze too much more out above factory power figures without boost or a new engine

when you say 96 CC GLi coupe... the cc never came as a GLi, ur sure its not a GLXi?

You cant do much with the little sohc 1.8 except put extractors, exhaust, cam and ecu

Other options are.... find a 4G92 twin cam Mivec head or a 4G93 twin cam head and put it on the existing block, but then youll need to find the matching ecu and loom + bolt ons

To me the best upgrade, find a Proton GTi (pre 2000 model) or M21 and use the engine, loom. all your existing bolt ons will bolt straight up to it, as with engine mounts and gearbox

Hi guys, thanks!
I cant remember the badge specifically because it was taken off. I know the engine/gearbook were probably changed at some point, and that it is 'currently' an 1.8i 5spd, but I'm fairly sure it was a 1.8carby auto.

Anyway, in the OP we probably wont do any conversions, so extractors, exhaust, cam and ecu sound like the way we'll go. Do you have any more details or suggestions for each of those, as in what specifically to look at?

There are only 4 combos for CCs. 1.5 carby auto, 1.5 carby manual, 1.8 efi auto, 1.8 efi manual.

I did a 4g93p conversion to my coupe, the power increase isn't much but it lets you unleash far more of that power. Way more responsive. If you're staying sohc NA you'd be best off with probably a 2.5" full exhaust, hurricane or redback extractors in maybe a 4-1 setup with 2.5" outlet. 100 cell cat for more flow, whatever muffler you want. Probably hurricane again.

Maybe a stage1 rpw cam. Stage 2 if you want to get serious. Then just a piggyback for your ecu.

Let me also just point out that a dohc swap will cost less than your exhaust and cam and will give you the same amount of power, but with more room to work. You can also run a gsr turbo turbo ecu and injectors on it to dump more fuel. Also lets you easily turbo the car in the future.

For reference my dohc 1.8 makes 84.4kw at the wheels which is about the same as a sohc makes at the fly. All I have is an exhaust and some bolt on mods for more airflow and better spark.
