REMOVEING DOUBLE SIDED TAPE RESIDUE +

This seems to be an ongoing request so I've started this new thread and put in my two bits worth in and hopefully others will follow with their remedies, not necessarily only for double sided tape residue. I have found Methylated spirits works not only on double sided tape but also on spray on glue I've been using to attach sound deadening material, that has finished up where it shouldn't have and a variety of other glues etc over a period of time with no adverse effects. . Other side benefits of Metho: is it will also clean vinyl surfaces and painted surfaces removing polishes, waxes and protectants, leaving you with a nice clean surface to work on.I understand there is a product I think called Prepsol, used by panel beaters an d pros that's pretty good.

Are you just making threads for the hell of it? Would like to see where this is a 'common request'.

Wax and grease remover, common knowledge.

I think he just wants to be an active member, but unfortunately is going about it in a way that is not quite how we like it here.

Peregrine, the reason you are copping flack is due to your making of extra threads. the info you have posted would be good, however belongs in a thread where someone has asked how to remove adhesive residue. rather than in a new thread. We try to keep useless threads to a minimum so that its easy for people to find info.
An idea of a better thread would be, if you wanted to write an info thread "what chemicals are used on cars and what to use them for" going into detail of thinners, solvents, degreasers, sulphuric acid....etc

Rather than attempt to reply to each of the above replies I'll respond to all of them here as they appear to carry the same message. 7R3N7 No I"m not making threads just for the hell of it. Just trying to be helpful. Res Active Member? Just helpful member! As usual your response is complete And constructive!!! and your empathy is exceptional. Thanks. HELLO Thanks WELL, It appears I have inadvertently got up the nose of some members. I'll take this opportunity to thank them for bringing me in line with the clubs attitudes and requirements. Nomenclature has never been of interest to me and now in my 80s its a non issue. My reason for joining this club was to be able to get answers and help and not to be just a taker but to give back and help with answers. As forming new threads appears to be a sacred cow for some reason I'll restrict myself to only using these as a means to get an answer to something I need and leave the rest to the more Knowledgeable older members with their signatory rights.. Some of the more advanced members should realize there are possibly members who have to think of which way to swing a spanner to loosen or tighten a nut or bolt. the I'd love to help .BUT! May be in time! Something I learned in life was to get the best results. Be lavish with your praise and constructive with your criticism.

There is a thread for noob questions that gets used regularly and answered even more regularly, that's where we like to keep the quick, short responses for new memebers. Also the mini chat is great for that too. If you wanted to create a random discussion thread and update the title whenever the topic changes, then I'd say that could be a space for people to discuss and rant away without 5 threads popping up. Example.

Rant Thread: Petrol Octane.

Then when the convo changes direction:

Rant Thread: Removing Adhesives

Thanks Rigby. Pity there aren't more like you in this club and a lot less unhelpful critics . I don't mean those that offer corrections or alternative oppinons bu rather those that offer nothing but negativity. I wonder if any of those have ever contributed any useful articles themselves.

Everyone contributes in their own way and a lot of people have specific knowledge that is super helpful eg. Matt Dean is the one to talk to on wheel/tyre fitment.

We are just used to a specific kind of format where the website isn't cluttered with threads and where information is easily accessible without drowing in search results, helps us stay both unique and user friendly in that regard. Try another forum like OzHonda and you'll see what I mean.

Also it is rare for a new question or information to be brought up here since we have so many knowledgeable guys who have basically answered every question you could think of, but yeah that's what we use the noob thread for :)

Also peregrine, try using separate paragraphs. If you slab out a lot of writing people never really want to read through it and are probably more likely to write off what you're saying or just plain ignore it.

Rather than making a thread specific for double sided tapes, maybe try making a DIY thread with a picture or two of what you mean. Maybe try and start the thread Res suggested, so there is a specific bank of chemical knowledge we can click on and find information easily - so long as the OP updates and structures the first post.

Try something along those lines rather than the specific threads that just get buried and forgotten. We've all been noobs, just gotta learn how it works and continue what has been started for you.

Thanks Rigby I'll just zip closed and accept without giving for now. Wish there were more givers in the CJ column. Still there's always CLUB CJ. hate their format but I'll get used to it but very professional and helpful.

Thanks Hugh-CE , constructive criticism is always welcome and your points have been taken and I'll abide by them as best I can.
By the way I live more or less down the road from you in Diamond Creek - ST: Helena side, so If you happen to see a silver CJ ES Sport with an old dark complexioned grey haired codger behind the wheel give me three beeps on your horn. That s fine for any club member.

Haha no way. I have friends in the neighbourhood. Although, I prefer to go
To and from Hurstbridge via north warrandyte for the pretend hill run aspect

you can also use oomph from bunnings does a good job aswell
Thanks 90dzi but why buy something you might use maybe once or twice and then it sits there for years. When you can use just a household product that's possibly sitting on a shelf at home. Like methylated spirits or as suggested by Tim, maybe eucalyptus oil. Maybe oomph could be included in the above but I know nothing about it so cant qualify it. I don;t think it really matters what you use so long as it works, doesn't affect the surface your working on and is available.

Eucalyptus oil works a treat for me.
Thanks Tim. Another alternative and there are possibly some others but one of those already here including this, should be available to just about everyone so I reckon this thread has gone as far as it needs to go!!!
