Hey guys I'm trying to install a tachometer on my CE 02 lancer and I'm not sure how I should go about it

What model lancer is it first? GLI, GLI 1.8, GLXI, VRX or MR. We'll need to know what engine its running and that's the easiest way to tell.

What type of tacho you after? One in the cluster or an external one on the pillar or similar?

Ah to me personally that doesn't mean anything - engine number should have either 4g15 or 4g93 in it somewhere. Or the model badge on the back (unless its debadged).

Ok fair enough - won't be an MR as a sedan but 1.8 helps - I know theres a link for 1.5 but its different for 1.8, someone should be able to give you a hand though.

Just a though have you considered simply swapping the cluster to a Tacho cluster? Muuuuuch easier legit plug and play. Pull the old one plug in the new one.

Please don't be one of those people, that put a monster tacho in as well as having the one in the factory cluster

Honestly best to go with in cluster, as mentioned plug and play providing its from the same model, if pulled over it's not going to be a talking point with the police.
No need to tap into the loom, no need to find a gauge and no need to find a gauge pod.

i vote for tacho cluster swap too, for the neatness more than anything else.

here is the pinout of the ECU, not sure if its the correct tap in point but try tap into the RPM signal either at pin 58 (tach signal output) OR try pin 890 which is CAS sensor

I still have one from the days that I didn't have a tacho in the GLI cluster. But if you insist of putting an aftermarket one, there is a plug in the firewall along the a/c lines that you could plug in. Or did it the way I did as the one in the engine bay didn't work for me, just tap it on pin 58 in the ecu. all you need is a vampire clip and your done.
